Pharmacology of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1995
Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are triterpenoid compounds that exist widely in food, medicinal herbs and other plants. This review summarizes the pharmacological studies on these two triterpenoids. Both oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are effective in protecting against chemically induced liver injury in laboratory animals.

Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid: Research perspectives

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2005
Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are ubiquitous triterpenoids in plant kingdom, medicinal herbs, and are integral part of the human diet. During the last decade over 700 research articles have been published on their research, reflecting tremendous interest and progress in our understanding of these triterpenoids.

Ursolic acid regulates high glucose-induced apoptosis

Free Radical Research, 2007
A high concentration of glucose has been implicated as a causal factor in initiation and progression of diabetic complications and there is evidence to suggest that hyperglycemia increases the production of free radicals and oxidative stress. Therefore, compounds that scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS) may confer regulatory effects on high glucose ...

Modulation of angiogenic factors by ursolic acid

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2008
Investigations were carried out to understand the molecular basis of the effect of ursolic acid on angiogenesis by analysing its effects on the expression of modulators of angiogenesis by HUVECs in culture. Treatment with ursolic acid increased the expression of adhesion molecules such as E-selectin, CD-31 and I-CAM, upregulated angiogenic growth ...

Solubilization of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid by cosolvency

Archives of Pharmacal Research, 1997
Solubilities of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in aqueous surfactant solutions, liquid polyethylene glycols (PEG), and solvents of various polarity were measured. The results showed that the solutes were slightly or moderately solubilized in the surfactant solutions and the liquid PEGs.

The cytotoxic activity of ursolic acid derivatives

European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2005
Ursolic acid and 2alpha-hydroxyursolic acid isolated from apple peels were found to show growth inhibitory activity against four tumor cell lines, HL-60, BGC, Bel-7402 and Hela. Structural modifications were performed on the C-3, C-28 and C-11 positions of ursolic acid and the cytotoxicity of the derivatives was evaluated.

Ursolic acid promotes apoptosis, autophagy, and chemosensitivity in gemcitabine-resistant human pancreatic cancer cells.

Phytotherapy Research, 2020
Gemcitabine (GEM) resistance in pancreatic adenocarcinoma mediated by the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) has been demonstrated. Therefore, investigating the safety and the potential of new auxiliary methods for pancreatic cancer ...

Neuroprotection of Rotenone induced Parkinsonism by Ursolic acid in PD mouse model.

CNS and Neurological Disorders - Drug Targets, 2020
BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by both motor and non-motor symptoms. The presynaptic neuronal protein, α-Synuclein, plays a pivotal role in PD pathogenesis and is associated with both genetic and sporadic origin of the disease ...

Ursolic acid: An anti‐ and pro‐inflammatory triterpenoid

Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2008
AbstractThere is growing interest in the elucidation of the biological functions of triterpenoids, ubiquitously distributed throughout the plant kingdom, some of which are used as anticancer and anti‐inflammatory agents in Asian countries. Ursolic acid (UA), a natural pentacyclic triterpenoid carboxylic acid, is the major component of some traditional ...
