Contact Allergy Induced by Mango (Mangifera indica): A Relevant Topic?

open access: yesMedicina, 2021
Introduction: The most common clinical manifestation of mango allergy is contact dermatitis, which can be localized or systemic. The sensitising substances that have long been suspected are alk(en)yl catechols and/or alk(en)yl resorcinols.

High‐Performance Vitrimeric Benzoxazines for Sustainable Advanced Materials: Design, Synthesis, and Applications

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, Volume 308, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Aromatic phenols derived from plants are used with formaldehyde and primary amines to synthesize benzoxazine resins. If a suitable dynamic bond is incorporated in benzoxazine monomer, the material would polymerize into a high‐performance polybenzoxazine vitrimer for aerospace and other industrial applications.

HPLC and ToF‒SIMS Analyses of Toxicodendron vernicifluum Tree Sap Mixed with Other Natural Lacquers

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Lacquer sap has been used by humans from antiquitywhen it was treated as a luxury item because of its desirable physical properties. In modern times, although access barriers are lower, lacquer is still considered to be rare and valuable.

Performance Enhancement of Polyurethane Acrylate Resin by Urushiol: Rheological and Kinetic Studies. [PDF]

open access: yesPolymers (Basel)
A natural extract, i.e., urushiol, was employed to effectively cross-link and modify commercial wet-cured polyurethane acrylic resin. Comprehensive characterization of the paint film was performed using techniques such as FTIR, SEM, and TGA.

Overview of Adductomics in Toxicology

open access: yesCurrent Protocols, Volume 3, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Adductomics is epidemiology at the molecular level. Untargeted adductomics compares levels of chemical adducts on albumin, hemoglobin, and DNA between healthy and exposed individuals. The goal is to determine a cause‐and‐effect relationship between chemical exposure and illness. Chemical exposures are not necessarily due to synthetic chemicals

IL‐1β and Allergy: Focusing on Its Role in Allergic Rhinitis

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a chronic upper airway immune‐inflammation response mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE) to allergens and can seriously affect the quality of life and work efficiency. Previous studies have shown that interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β) acts as a key cytokine to participate in and promote the occurrence and development of allergic diseases ...

Initial research indicates dairy goats used to clear poison oak do not transfer toxicant to milk

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1992
Dairy goats that eat poison oak do not transfer detectible amounts of the toxic principle, urushiol, to the milk or to the urine. Furthermore, this oily, toxic irritant is found in goat manure at less than 9% of its concentration in ...

Sustainable Flame Retardant Coatings Derived from Chinese Lacquer Blend with Synergistic Flame Retardant Silicon‐Modified Ammonium Polyphosphate

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
The intumescent flame retardant has a high efficiency of carbonization, oxygen barrier, and thermal interruption effect, which is considered to be a promising green and environmentally friendly flame retardant. Herein, we demonstrated a new approach to improve the flame retardant performance of Chinese lacquer films by adding silicon modified ammonium ...

Variation on a theme: the structures and biosynthesis of specialized fatty acid natural products in plants

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 111, Issue 4, Page 954-965, August 2022., 2022
SUMMARY Plants are able to construct lineage‐specific natural products from a wide array of their core metabolic pathways. Considerable progress has been made toward documenting and understanding, for example, phenylpropanoid natural products derived from phosphoenolpyruvate via the shikimate pathway, terpenoid compounds built using isopentyl ...
