PTG‐Dependent Glycogen Metabolic Dysfunction Drives Impaired Adipose Browning: A Novel Mechanism Linking PM2.5 to Metabolic Disorders

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study provides the first evidence that PM2.5 impairs iWAT browning via PTG‐mediated glycogen metabolism disruption, which is initiated by ADRB3 inhibition and subsequently triggers VEGFB upregulation. It thereby delineates the ADRB3‐PTG‐VEGFB axis as central to PM2.5‐induced metabolic dysfunction and identifies adipose glycogen metabolism as a ...

The US dollar and the euro – Deus Ex Machina: The dollar may be our currency, but it’s your problem. EUMA Papers, Vol.5, No.9 April 2008 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
[Introduction]. Until the 19th and mid-20th centuries, economic theory explained that the economic status of a country was represented by the strength of its currency.2 This strength is measured by the exchange rate of one currency vis-á-vis another ...

Quantitative Proteomics and CRISPR/Cas9 Editing Reveal UPR‐Mediated Control of Immunoglobulin Homeostasis in Hybridomas

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BCR sequencing and subclone analysis correlated immunoglobulin (Ig) chain loss in dysfunctional hybridomas with disrupted monoclonal antibody homeostasis. Proteomics‐guided CRISPR/Cas9 editing revealed that the unfolded protein response (UPR) regulates aberrant Ig synthesis.

Gabpα‐Pparγ Complex Determines Glycolytic Capacity and Lactic Acid Homeostasis in Brown Fat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies the Gabpα–Pparγ complex as a key transcriptional regulator that couples glycolysis to lactate‐driven thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue by directly activating Eno1 transcription. ‌Competitive disruption of this interaction impairs lactate metabolism and thermogenic capacity.

Can gold effectively hedge risks of exchange rate?

open access: yesJournal of Business Economics and Management, 2013
This study tests whether gold can effectively hedge exchange rate risks. We take into account the asymmetric characteristic of exchange rate fluctuations and use the dynamic panel threshold model in order to select gold prices in major gold-related ...

The US dollar: Safe haven - Despite rising US current account deficit [PDF]

open access: yes
The empirical analysis in this paper supports the view that the status of the US dollar as a “safe haven” is closely related to the development of the US current account and the US net foreign debt.

Currency Networks, Bilateral Exchange Rate Volatility and the Role of the US Dollar [PDF]

open access: yes
We investigate monthly bilateral exchange rate volatility for a large sample of currency pairs over the period 1999-2006. Pegs (particularly to the US dollar) and managed floats tend to have lower volatility than independent floats.
