Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 9, 6 May 2026.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

2D Nanomaterials Toward Function‐Ready Superlubricity in Advanced Microsystems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 27, 14 May 2026.
A unified framework links structural and transformation superlubricity with microsystem functions and deployment requirements. Mechanisms, device architectures, integration strategies, AI‐guided discovery, and benchmarking protocols are connected to define function‐ready superlubricity in advanced microsystems.

Bistable Wetting States on a Smooth Surface

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 10, 19 May 2026.
Droplets on non‐textured surfaces typically exhibit a monostable wetting state. Here, we show that droplets can exhibit bistability even without surface texture. We investigate water droplets on a smooth substrate immersed in oil. We find that molecular modulation causes the droplet states to bifurcate into either a sticking or a repellent state ...

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 11, Issue 10, 22 May 2026.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Intelligent Tactile Sensing Platform for Digitizing Human Sensory Perception of Semi‐Solid Formulations via Frictional Decay Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Sensor Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, May 2026.
This study presents a tactile sensing platform that digitizes human sensory perception of semi‐solid formulations via frictional decay dynamics. By extracting mechanistic parameters from time‐dependent friction profiles, the system achieves high‐precision prediction of sensory attributes (R2 up to 0.85).
