Real Time Tire Wear Detection Using Intelligent Tires

Volume 13: Research Posters; Safety Engineering, Risk and Reliability Analysis, 2023
Abstract Tires, the only vehicle component in contact with the road, are crucial in determining vehicle dynamics. However, as the tires travel substantially, different wear patterns such as feather, spotty, and camber wear are introduced in different parts of the tire’s tread due to contact with the road surface, improper tire inflation ...

Tire health monitoring using the intelligent tire concept

Structural Health Monitoring, 2018
Tire durability plays an important role in road transportation safety. Damaged tires can cause vehicle instability and create potential traffic accidents. To study the potential of using the intelligent tire concept for health monitoring of the tire, a computational method for defect detection in tire structure was developed.

Estimation of Tire-Road Friction Using Tire Vibration Model

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2002
<div class="htmlview paragraph">In this paper, a friction estimation method using a tire vibration model is proposed. It is based on the frequency characteristics of the wheel speed vibration which are related to the tire-road friction. The recursive least squares and the instrumental variable method are applied for online estimation.

Intelligent tires for improved tire safety using wireless strain measurement

SPIE Proceedings, 2008
From a traffic safety point-of-view, there is an urgent need for intelligent tires as a warning system for road conditions, for optimized braking control on poor road surfaces and as a tire fault detection system. Intelligent tires, equipped with sensors for monitoring applied strain, are effective in improving reliability and control systems such as ...
