On-line user-computer interface

Proceedings of the May 6-10, 1974, national computer conference and exposition on - AFIPS '74, 1974
In less than two decades the electronic digital computer has evolved from a high-speed replacement for the abacus to a full-fledged partner in dialogue with humans. By its very nature, on-line computing thrusts the user into an entirely different environment than does conventional batch processing.

Visual database interface for end user computing

Proceedings ICCI `92: Fourth International Conference on Computing and Information, 2003
This paper proposes a new interface, visual database interface (VDI), for the novice end users to design, implement and query the database systems. The semantic data model used by VDI is an enhanced ER model (EER) with the inclusion of generalization/specialization, aggregation and categorization abstractions.

Development of the user-computer interface

Computers & Education, 1983
Abstract Requirements of the personal computer user are identified and contrasted with computer designer perspectives towards the user. The user's psychological needs are described so that the design of the user-computer interface may be designed to accommodate them.

User-Computer Interface Requirements for Remote Access Data Bases

Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1987
Remote Access Data Base (RADB) technology offers a variety of opportunities for rapidly acquiring and disseminating information. However, if the exchange of information is to be optimized, issues concerning the RADB user-computer interface (UCI) must be identified and addressed.

Assessment of intelligence of user-computer interface

2016 7th International Conference on Information and Communication Systems (ICICS), 2016
In a world where business and life revolves around internet and computers, the quality of user-computer interfaces became very important. Designs of user interface become the utmost important issue since users, -which also happen to be customers-judge quality of a product by the ease of use of the product. Selection of menu language, placement of icons,

User-Computer Interface Design of a Complex Tactical Display Terminal

Proceedings of the Human Factors Society Annual Meeting, 1982
A complex tactical display terminal has been designed with operator input/output utility identified as an important criterion for design emphasis. Careful attention to the locations and interactions between the components of a user-computer interface has resulted in a display terminal capable of supporting the communication, analysis, and decision ...

Teaching the Design and evaluation of User-Computer Interfaces

Proceedings of the 1982 conference on Human factors in computing systems - CHI '82, 1982
In this paper we describe a graduate Computer Science course, “The Design of User-Computer Interfaces”, which the author developed and has taught since 1979. Students taking the course are normally in their second year of graduate study, and have thus been exposed to several different interactive computing environments.

Towards specifying and evaluating the human factors of user-computer interfaces

Proceedings of the 1982 conference on Human factors in computing systems - CHI '82, 1982
Despite the current interest in user-computer interfaces, the design of a good interface remains to a great extent an art, with much argument over guidelines and principles for interface design. Pertinent information, scattered throughout the literature of psychology, graphic design.
