On X-Channels with Feedback and Delayed CSI

open access: yes, 2012
The sum degrees of freedom (DoF) of the two-user MIMO X-channel is characterized in the presence of output feedback and delayed channel state information (CSI).

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

On-Device Deep Learning Inference for Efficient Activity Data Collection

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Labeling activity data is a central part of the design and evaluation of human activity recognition systems. The performance of the systems greatly depends on the quantity and “quality” of annotations; therefore, it is inevitable to rely on ...

A framework for query refinement with user feedback [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Systems and Software, 2013
SQL queries in the existing relational data model implement the binary satisfaction of tuples. That is, a data tuple is filtered out from the result set if it does not satisfy the constraints expressed in the predicates of the user submitted query. Posing appropriate queries for ordinary users is very difficult in the first place if they lack knowledge

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Tracking Users for a Targeted Dissemination [PDF]

open access: yesStatistika: Statistics and Economy Journal, 2015
How to build a dissemination and communication strategy in a world where users have easy access to a deluge of data and information from various origins and where IT tools and design standards change so quickly that users behaviour and their expectations

Automatic Query Image Disambiguation for Content-Based Image Retrieval

open access: yes, 2017
Query images presented to content-based image retrieval systems often have various different interpretations, making it difficult to identify the search objective pursued by the user.
