El centro administrativo de Pumpu fue construido sobre una geografía y clima agreste, debido a que favorecía el proceso natural en el tratamiento de alimentos deshidratados y almacenamiento de los mismos. Asimismo, su ubicación estratégica permitía el fácil acceso a la costa, selva y las cuencas serranas del Mantaro y el Huallaga.
