Nature as a Source of Inspiration for the Structure of the Sydney Opera House [PDF]

open access: yesBiomimetics, 2022
Architects throughout the ages have looked to nature for answers to complex questions about the most appropriate structural forms for their buildings. This is the case of Jørn Utzon and the design of roof shells of the Sydney Opera House, in which the ...

Pathological Tendon Histology in Early and Chronic Human Patellar Tendinopathy. [PDF]

open access: yesTransl Sports Med, 2022
The present pilot study investigated the extent of histological tissue changes in both chronic tendinopathy and in individuals that display early clinical signs of tendinopathy. The study included 8 individuals of whom 3 were healthy without any tendon symptoms, 2 had early symptoms (1–2 months), and 3 had chronic symptoms (>3 months) from their ...

Mutual stimulatory signaling between human myogenic cells and rat cerebellar neurons. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiol Rep, 2021
These findings demonstrate mutually beneficial stimulatory signaling between rat cerebellar granule neurons and human myogenic cells. The presence of myogenic cells stimulated neurite growth. Species specific PCR of the mono‐cultures vs. co‐cultures revealed effects of co‐culture and/or medium type (statistical main effects and interactions indicated).

Water-Triggered Direct Air Capture by Strong Organic Bases. [PDF]

open access: yesChemSusChem
Peralkylated guanidines capture CO₂ directly from moist air and release concentrated CO₂ upon water co‐evaporation with a smalltemperature‐swing of 45 °C. This water‐triggered capture and release mechanism enables a high working capacity of nearly one equivalent CO2 per base, offering a promising approach for direct air capture.

Preserved stem cell content and innervation profile of elderly human skeletal muscle with lifelong recreational exercise. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Physiol, 2022
Abstract figure legend Lifelong exercisers were studied alongside age‐matched sedentary individuals and young subjects. Muscle biopsies were obtained from all subjects and used for immunofluorescent analyses and cell culture experiments. In vivo measurements of muscle mass and function were also performed.

Glucagon-Like Peptide-2 Analogue ZP1849 Augments Colonic Anastomotic Wound Healing. [PDF]

open access: yesGastroenterol Res Pract, 2020
Background. The enteroendocrine hormone glucagon‐like peptide‐ (GLP‐) 2 is a potent trophic factor in the gastrointestinal tract. The GLP‐2 receptor (GLP‐2R) is expressed in the stroma of the large bowel wall, which is the major therapeutic target area to prevent anastomotic leakage. We investigated the efficacy of the long‐acting GLP‐2 analogue ZP1849

Disruption of day-to-night changes in circadian gene expression with chronic tendinopathy. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Physiol
Abstract figure legend The primary goal of this study was to establish whether human tendon tissue is a circadian clock. Limited by obtaining only two patellar biopsies from each subject, we designed a study taking the biopsies 12 h apart, once in the day and once in the night, and analysed the gene expression by RNA sequencing.
