The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Forensic examination of different textile fibres using UV- Vis spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Objective: The purpose of this study is to forensically examine different textile fibres using UV/visible spectroscopy. Methodology: Five different fibre types of ten different local brands have been analyzed using uv-vis spectroscopy. Each fibre was ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Experimental and Theoretical Study Of UV-Vis Spectra of Schiff Bases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The UV-Vis properties of ten Schiff bases were systematically investigated. The time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) approach in combination with the B3LYP functional was used for simulation of UV-Vis spectra of examined compounds. The shapes

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Classification of red wines from controlled designation of origin by ultraviolet-visible and near-infrared spectral analysis [PDF]

open access: yesCiência e Técnica Vitivinícola, 2014
Spectroscopy has become one of the most attractive and commonly used methods of analysis in many agricultural products. Chemometrics combined with ultraviolet (UV), visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) spectral analysis were evaluated to classify wines ...

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Operando UV-Vis Spectroscopy Insights into the Methane Dehydroaromatization Reaction over Mo/H-ZSM-5 Catalysts [PDF]

open access: yes
Methane Dehydroaromatization (MDA) is proposed as a possible way to valorize stranded natural gas, e.g., arising during crude oil drilling. In this study, we used operando UV-Vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS) in combination with Multivariate ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
