Degradation of antipyrine by UV, UV/H2O2 and UV/PS
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2013Degradation of antipyrine (AP) in water by three UV-based photolysis processes (i.e., direct UV, UV/H₂O₂, UV/persulfate (UV/PS)) was studied. For all the oxidation processes, the AP decomposition exhibited a pseudo-first-order kinetics pattern. Generally, UV/H₂O₂ and UV/PS significantly improved the degradation rate relevant to UV treatment alone.

Removal of amoxicillin by UV and UV/H2O2 processes
Science of The Total Environment, 2012The degradation of the β-lactam antibiotic amoxicillin (AM) treated with direct UV-C and UV/H(2)O(2) photolytic processes was investigated in the present study. In addition, the antibacterial activity of the solution treated by UV/H(2)O(2) advanced oxidation was compared with AM solution treated with ozone.

UV prognosis and UV index services in Europe
Melanoma Research, 1996The ultraviolet radiation (UV) has always been an environmental factor for life on earth. UV is the nonvisible short-waved part of the optical spectrum between 100 and 400 nm wavelength. The sun is the most important source of UV, while the atmosphere depending on the position of the sun, is influencing the intensity of radiation that is reaching the ...

Predicting UV sky for future UV missions
Astronomy and Computing, 2013Abstract Software simulators are now widely used in all areas of science, especially in application to astronomical missions: from instrument design to mission planning, and to data interpretation. We present a simulator to model the diffuse ultraviolet sky, where the different contributors are separately calculated and added together to produce a ...

IR/UV and UV/UV double-resonance study of guaiacol and eugenol dimers
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2005Guaiacol (2-methoxyphenol) and eugenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) molecules are biologically active phenol derivatives with an intramolecular −OH⋯OCH3 hydrogen bond (H bond). Pulsed supersonic expansions of mixtures of either of the two molecules with He yield weakly bound homodimers as well as other higher-order complexes. A number of complementary and

The sequential light microscopic histological changes produced in human skin by a single exposure of UV-A, UV-B, UV-C and oral 8-methoxypsoralen plus UV-A (PUVA) causing approximately equal degress of delayed erythema response, have been evaluated. UV-C and UV-B affect the epidermis to a greater degree than UV-A, while UV-A affects the dermis to a ...

Wavelength Measurements in the UV and Vacuum UV
1976The NPL is using a Michelson Interferometer for the measurement of wavelengths in the UV and VUV. The interferogram produced by a particular line is examined at a number of widely separated path differences by scanning over a short distance (1 to 4 fringes), so as to obtain the visibility and also the phase relative to that of a reference wavelength ...

Degradation of antibiotics norfloxacin by Fenton, UV and UV/H2O2
Journal of Environmental Management, 2015This study aimed to evaluate the degradation of the antibiotic norfloxacin, using direct photolysis (UV), photolysis with hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) and Fenton's oxidation processes. Initially, it was evaluated the behavior of the antibiotic norfloxacin on direct photolysis, in order to see if the process could be a pertinent way to eliminate the drug
