Background/aims: The pathogenic role of ultraviolet (UV) in the development of skin cancer, skin ageing and immunosuppression makes it important to monitor human exposure to UV radiation. In a previous study we constructed UVB and UVC dosimeters based on a thermoluminescent phenomenon induced by UV in CaF2:Dy and CaF2 crystals.

UV-sensitive syndrome (UV(S)S) is a human DNA repair-deficiency disorder with mild clinical manifestations. In contrast to other disorders with photosensitivity, no neurological or developmental abnormalities and no predisposition to cancer have been reported. The cellular and biochemical responses of UV(S)S and Cockayne syndrome (CS) cells to UV light

UV prognosis and UV index services in Europe
Melanoma Research, 1996The ultraviolet radiation (UV) has always been an environmental factor for life on earth. UV is the nonvisible short-waved part of the optical spectrum between 100 and 400 nm wavelength. The sun is the most important source of UV, while the atmosphere depending on the position of the sun, is influencing the intensity of radiation that is reaching the ...

With approx. 150 UV-visible spectra of organic and mineral substances this library is not comparable to other UV-vis spectra databases available. If number of substances is lesser than other databases, the spectra acquisition conditions and the use of data are exclusively oriented to/for water and wastewater quality monitoring.

IR/UV and UV/UV double-resonance study of guaiacol and eugenol dimers
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2005Guaiacol (2-methoxyphenol) and eugenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) molecules are biologically active phenol derivatives with an intramolecular −OH⋯OCH3 hydrogen bond (H bond). Pulsed supersonic expansions of mixtures of either of the two molecules with He yield weakly bound homodimers as well as other higher-order complexes. A number of complementary and

UV-RNA Immunoprecipitation (UV-RIP) Protocol in Neurons
2016With the many advances in genome-wide sequencing, it has been discovered that much more of the genome is transcribed into RNA than previously appreciated. These nonprotein-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) come in many different forms, and they have been shown to have a variety of functions within the cell, influencing processes such as gene expression, mRNA ...
