Interactive effects of solar UV radiation and climate change on material damage
Photochemical and Photobiological Sciences, 2019Solar UV radiation adversely affects the properties of organic materials used in construction, such as plastics and wood. The outdoor service lifetimes of these materials are influenced by their rates of degradation under solar UV radiation as well as by

A Real‐Time Wearable UV‐Radiation Monitor based on a High‐Performance p‐CuZnS/n‐TiO2 Photodetector
Advances in Materials, 2018Solar radiation, especially ultraviolet (UV) light, is a major hazard for most skin‐related cancers. The growing needs for wearable health monitoring systems call for a high‐performance real‐time UV sensor to prevent skin diseases caused by excess UV ...

The idea that UV radiation causes cataract has superficial biological plausibility based upon studies of UV-B on lens components, whole lenses and experimental animals. However, epidemiological studies on man, particularly geographical studies, are highly confounded by socioeconomic factors and yield little information.

Abstract: Solar radiation is a well documented risk factor in melanoma and non melanocytic skin cancer (i.e. basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma). It has been suspected to play a role also for lip cancer and for eye melanoma. Primary prevention should include advises to the public about sensible sun exposure.

Prevention of UV Radiation Hazard
2018 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2018 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2018The aim of this paper is to present the main issues concerning the protection of outdoor workers from UV natural radiation, in order to prevent the UV adverse effects, and to discuss the current measurement tools available for workers, evidencing their deficits.

Room Decontamination with UV Radiation
Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology, 2010Objective.To determine the effectiveness of a UV-C-emitting device to eliminate clinically important nosocomial pathogens in a contaminated hospital room.Methods.This study was carried out in a standard but empty hospital room (phase 1) and in a room previously occupied by a patient with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or vancomycin ...

UV Radiation, Biological Effects
2011Ultraviolet (UV) radiation covers the part of the electromagnetic spectrum between the ionizing radiation region and the visible light. Based on the biological effects, it is subdivided into the following bands: UVC (100–280 nm), UVB (280–320 nm), and UVA (320–400 nm).

Melanoma and lifetime UV radiation
Cancer Causes and Control, 2004Because most risk factors for melanoma are immutable constitutional factors such as skin type, it is important to more fully understand the relationship between melanoma risk and sun exposure, one of the few modifiable risk factors for the disease. The goal of this case-control study was to quantify the risks of melanoma associated with UV exposure at ...
