The Cervical Vertebral Bone Quality Score Is a Novel Reliable Index Reflecting the Condition of Paraspinal Muscles and Predicting Loss of Cervical Lordosis After Open‐Door Laminoplasty

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1406-1417, May 2025.
There is a close correlation between C‐VBQ scores and the cervical deep extensors, deep flexors, and overall paraspinal muscles relative cross‐sectional area (RCSA) and degree of fat infiltration (DFF). The C‐VBQ score is a comprehensive parameter reflecting the quality of cervical bone and paraspinal muscles.

Impact of Prevertebral Fascia Suture and Relevant Risk Factors on Postoperative Dysphagia Following Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This study implemented a novel prevertebral fascia (PVF) suturing technique and demonstrated that PVF suturing during ACDF can significantly reduce both the incidence and severity of transient postoperative dysphagia in patients. The incidence of postoperative dysphagia is also significantly associated with advanced age, greater ΔC2‐7A, and minor ΔTS ...

To What Extent Do Different Criteria Influence 3‐Month Fusion Evaluation in Anterior Cervical Arthrodesis Trials?

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Different fusion criteria led to altered significance of comparison results of 3‐month fusion rates in ACDF trials, but not contradictory conclusions. CT and dynamic radiographs showed poor agreement. Optimal dynamic thresholds recommended by criteria agreement were 3° of Cobb angle change or 2 mm of interspinous motion.
