Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.

Ceramide synthase 4 interferes with replication of influenza virus but is downregulated by infection

open access: yesJournal of Virology
Influenza continues to pose a serious threat to humans. Influenza-host interaction is incompletely understood, requiring identification of host factors that regulate viral pathogenicity.

CD206+ Cell Number Differentiates Influenza A (H1N1)pdm09 from Seasonal Influenza A Virus in Fatal Cases

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2014
In 2009, a new influenza A (H1N1) virus affected many persons around the world. There is an urgent need for finding biomarkers to distinguish between influenza A (H1N1)pdm09 and seasonal influenza virus.

Mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles attenuate influenza virus-induced acute lung injury in a pig model

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2018
Background Mesenchymal stem (stromal) cells (MSCs) mediate their immunoregulatory and tissue repair functions by secreting paracrine factors, including extracellular vesicles (EVs). In several animal models of human diseases, MSC-EVs mimic the beneficial

Hierarchically Engineered Multi‐Enzyme Nanoreactors for in vitro Drug Biosynthesis and Pathway Transplantation Into Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchically structured metal–organic framework (eMIL) is shown to host the complete six‐enzyme biosynthesis pathway for the anti‐cancer pigment violacein, reshaping reaction dynamics and multiplying in vitro yields. eMIL nanoreactors deliver this reconstituted bacterial multi‐protein system into mammalian cells, where cell‐derived substrates and ...

Back to the Future for Influenza Preimmunity—Looking Back at Influenza Virus History to Infer the Outcome of Future Infections

open access: yesViruses, 2019
The influenza virus-host interaction is a classic arms race. The recurrent and evolving nature of the influenza virus family allows a single host to be infected several times.

Cell Cycle Control of Nuclear Metabolism Couples Phosphatidylinositol Signaling to Histone Methylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nuclear metabolism oscillates during cell cycle progression. Quantitative chromatome proteomics and imaging reveal phase‐specific dynamics of PIP5K1A and nuclear PIP2, linking phosphatidylinositol metabolism to histone methylation. This work identifies nuclear lipid metabolism as a previously unrecognized regulatory axis coordinating chromatin ...
