Photochemical Aging of Atmospheric Black Carbon Promotes Nitrate Coating in a Chinese Megacity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Black carbon (BC) aerosol critically influences climate and haze, yet the mechanisms driving its coating and light absorption enhancement remain poorly understood. Here, we show that BC in Beijing is coated by ammonium nitrate via photochemistry.

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire 8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age Among People With Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐Centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Volume 78, Issue 9, Page 1140-1148, September 2026.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

B‐Cell Remodeling and Regulatory Phenotypes During Acute COVID‐19 Are Unaffected by Polyclonal Anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 Antibody XAV‐19

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 9, September 2026.
SARS‐CoV‐2 infection drives transient B‐cell remodeling toward an activated, regulatory‐like phenotype. In this randomized sub‐study, the polyclonal neutralizing antibody XAV‐19 did not detectably alter B‐cell phenotype, transcriptome, or function relative to placebo, indicating that passive polyclonal therapy preserves B‐cell homeostasis during acute ...

Incorporating Phylogeography and SDM Projection to Inform Conservation Efforts of the Foundation Seaweed Gloiopeltis furcata sensu lato in the North Pacific Under Climate Change

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the impact of past climate events on population genetic structuring and range shifts may facilitate predictions of how species will respond to future climate change. Such integrative effort, however, remain rare for the North Pacific benthic ecosystem. Here, we obtained mtDNA cox1 and cpDNA rbcL sequences of 85 populations of the
