Numerical study on the effect of V-notch on the penetration of grounding incidents in stiffened plates

open access: yesCurved and Layered Structures
Grounding is an accident on the ship that can hit the bottom ship, propeller, rudder, and other ship structure. Notch is a defect often appearing in ship structures, aircraft structures, bridges, welded joints, and even microstructures.

Investigation on the Crack Initiation of V-Shaped Notch Tip in Precision Cropping

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2014
The crack initiation of V-shaped notch tip has a very important influence on the cross-section quality and the cropping time for every segment of metal bar in course of low stress precision cropping.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The role of the notch signalling pathway in vascular smooth muscle cell apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The Notch signalling system is a highly conserved method of cell-to-cell communication involved in cell fate decisions in many cell types. Until recently, the importance of the Notch signalling pathway was recognized in the embryonic but not in the adult

Transcriptional program of osteoblast differentiation : coordinated activation of Notch, Wnt, and TGF-[beta] signaling pathways in MC3T3 cell line [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In order to examine the early events in osteoblast differentiation, three different model systems for osteoblast differentiation were compared: mouse pre-osteoblastic cell line MC3T3; mouse myoblastic cell line C2C12 and primary mouse calvarial ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Notch signaling pathway in human vascular smooth muscle cell differentiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Notch receptor-ligand interactions are a highly conserved mechanism, originally described in developmental studies using Drosophilae, that regulate inter-cell communication and dictate, in part, vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) fate in response to ...

Numb is not a critical regulator of Notch-mediated cell fate decisions in the developing chick inner ear.

open access: yes, 2015
The Notch signaling pathway controls differentiation of hair cells and supporting cells in the vertebrate inner ear. Here, we have investigated whether Numb, a known regulator of Notch activity in Drosophila, is involved in this process in the embryonic ...

Skinless V-Notched Fillet Yields of Tilapia (Oreochromis)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Recirculating Aquaculture, 2004
White hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis) produced in an experiment that determined the effects of various management practices on growth rate and feed conversion ratios were weighed, measured, and filleted at the conclusion of the growth trials. Regression analyses produced two models to predict fillet yields-one model that used the fish weight and length ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.
