Tailoring Vascular‐Immune Homeostasis via Manganese‐DNA Complex‐Armed Immunogenic Extracellular Vesicles for Pancreatic Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Mn2⁺–tumor DNA complexes encapsulated in dendritic cell (DC)– derived immunogenic extracellular vesicles (EVDC@Mn‐DNA) act as a DC‐specific cGAS– STING activator. EVDC@Mn‐DNA treatment enhances intratumoral DC activation, improves tumor vascular function, promotes CD8⁺ T cell activity, and suppresses pancreatic tumor growth,

RNF213 Is an Interferon‐Stimulated Gene That Targets Influenza A Virus NP and Activates MDA5 to Restrict Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNF213 is characterized as a dual‐functional antiviral effector. It directly mediates the degradation of the influenza A virus nucleoprotein (NP) while simultaneously activating the MDA5‐mediated innate immune signaling pathway. This coordinated response establishes a powerful host defense system against viral infection. ABSTRACT Influenza A virus (IAV)

Pneumococcal vaccination for new residents entering older adult care homes in England: national observational surveillance study

open access: yesThe Lancet. Healthy Longevity
Summary: Background: The incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) increases rapidly with age. In the UK, adults aged 65 years are eligible for the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) as part of the national immunisation ...

Genetic Detection of Quinolone Resistance in Haemophilus parainfluenzae: Mutations in the Quinolone Resistance-Determining Regions of gyrA and parC

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2010
The quinolone resistance-determining regions of gyrA and parC of both quinolone-sensitive and quinolone-resistant Haemophilus parainfluenzae strains were amplified and sequenced.

Genetic Similarity of Gonococcal Homologs to Meningococcal Outer Membrane Proteins of Serogroup B Vaccine

open access: yesmBio, 2019
The human pathogens Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis share high genome identity. Retrospective analysis of surveillance data from New Zealand indicates the potential cross-protective effect of outer membrane vesicle (OMV) meningococcal ...

Association of Previous Measles Infection With Markers of Acute Infectious Disease Among 9- to 59-Month-Old Children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundTransient immunosuppression and increased susceptibility to other infections after measles infection is well known, but recent studies have suggested the occurrence of an "immune amnesia" that could have long-term immunosuppressive effects ...

Vaccine-Preventable Disease Outbreaks

open access: yes, 2020
Despite the effectiveness of vaccines in disease prevention, outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases continue to occur. Primary and secondary vaccine failure may play a role in these outbreaks, particularly for pertussis or mumps infections, respectively. In addition, limited vaccine access and increasing vaccine concerns lead to lower vaccine uptake.

Marburg Virus Glycoprotein Is a Remarkable Virulent Factor Linked to Hemorrhagic Pathology: Evidence from Multimodal Experimental Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By integrating data from in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models, our research identifies the MARV glycoprotein as a remarkable hemorrhagic factor, filling a major gap in this important field. It also provides practical experimental tools for the basic research on viral pathogenesis and applied research aimed at antiviral intervention for hemorrhagic ...

Antibiotic and systemic therapies for pneumonia in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected and HIV-exposed children

open access: yesJournal of Infection in Developing Countries, 2011
Introduction: Pneumonia is the leading cause of mortality in both human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected and HIV-exposed children.  Administration of appropriate empirical antimicrobial and/or adjunctive systemic therapies may improve clinical ...
