Vacuum assisted closure in coloproctology [PDF]

open access: yesTechniques in Coloproctology, 2009
Vacuum-assisted closure has earned its indications in coloproctology. It has been described with variable results in the treatment of large perineal defects after abdominoperineal excision, in the treatment of stoma dehiscence and perirectal abscesses.

MODIFIED VACUUM-ASSISTED CLOSURE

open access: yesJournal of Health and Translational Medicine, 2006
The treatment of large ulcers is a problem. Closure with flaps and evenskin grafts in compromised patients is often fraught with risks. Dressing these large wounds is also a problem, as they are often heavily exudative. We report our experience using the vacuum-assisted closure technique in managing difficult ulcers in four patients.

Omental Herniation: A Rare Complication of Vacuum-Assisted Closure of Infected Sternotomy Wound [PDF]

open access: yesCase Reports in Cardiology, 2012
Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) has recently been adopted as an acceptable modality for management of sternotomy wound infections. Although generally efficacious, the use of negative pressure devices has been associated with complications such as bleeding,

Vacuum-assisted closure versus on-demand relaparotomy in patients with secondary peritonitis—the VACOR trial: protocol for a randomised controlled trial

open access: yesWorld Journal of Emergency Surgery, 2022
Background Secondary peritonitis is a severe condition with a 20–32% reported mortality. The accepted treatment modalities are vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) or primary closure with relaparotomy on-demand (ROD). However, no randomised controlled trial has

Rectal perforation and perirectal abscess following stapled hemorrhoidectomy for prolapsed hemorrhoids successfully managed with Endo-SPONGE endoluminal vacuum-assisted wound closure system [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Coloproctology, 2022
Active drains, which work by negative pressure, are commonly used to drain closed airtight wounds. Higher negative pressure is used in vacuum-assisted wound closure dressings.

Comparison of Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC) Therapy Versus Conventional Dressing in the Management of Diabetic Foot Ulcer

open access: yesPakistan Journal of Medical & Health Sciences, 2022
