Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Energy characteristics of the molten selenium-tellurium system

open access: yesScientific Reports
The energy functions of the components were determined based on additional studies intended to determine the values of total pressure and vapor composition over liquid solutions of the selenium-tellurium system: entropy, enthalpy, Gibbs energy, and heat ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Separation and Enrichment of Au and Ag from Lead Anode Slime by a Selective Oxidation–Vacuum Volatilization–Carbon Reduction Process

open access: yesMetals
Huge amounts of Au and Ag are recovered from the hazardous waste lead anode slime. The conventional extraction of precious metals from lead anode slime is based on pyrometallurgical and electrolytic processes, which are seriously conditioned by the ...

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

Development of an CNT field emission UHV ionization gauge with customized electronics

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
An ionization vacuum gauge with carbon nanotube (CNT) cathode was designed for measurement of ultra high vacuum (UHV). The sensor was constructed based on Bayard-Alpert type gauge.

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Effects of magnetic field topography on the ion thruster discharge chamber performance

open access: yesAIP Advances
It is the magnetic field topography that determines the ion thruster discharge performance. A three-dimension numerical model of the 20 cm ion thruster discharge chamber was established, and a particle-in-cell method was used to model the discharge ...
