Formation and characterization of polytetrafluoroethylene nanofiber membranes for vacuum membrane distillation

Journal of Membrane Science, 2014
Abstract The polytetrafluoroethylene nanofiber membranes for membrane distillation were prepared by sintering the precursor electrospun polytetrafluoroethylene/polyvinyl alcohol composite membranes. The effects of sintering temperature and time on the morphology and properties of the prepared membranes were investigated.

Omniphobic Hollow-Fiber Membranes for Vacuum Membrane Distillation

Environmental Science & Technology, 2018
Management of produced water from shale gas production is a global challenge. Vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) is considered a promising solution because of its various advantages. However, low-surface-tension species in produced water can easily deposit on the membrane surface and cause severe fouling or wetting problems.

Performance of ceramic membrane in vacuum membrane distillation and in vacuum membrane crystallization

Desalination, 2018
Membrane crystallization (MCr) is emerging as an interesting candidate to extract additional freshwater and raw materials from high-concentrated solutions. Traditionally, MCr has been carried out by using polymeric membranes that have limited chemical and mechanical stability. These shortcomings can be overcome by using ceramic membranes.

Vacuum membrane distillation by microchip with temperature gradient

Lab on a Chip, 2010
A multilayered microchip (25 x 95 mm) used for vacuum distillation is designed, fabricated and tested by rectification of a water-methanol mixture. The polymer chip employs a cooling channel to generate a temperature gradient along a distillation channel below, which is separated into a channel (72 microm deep) for liquid phase and a channel (72 microm

Studies in vacuum membrane distillation with flat membranes

Journal of Membrane Science, 2017
Abstract How microporous membrane characteristics affect membrane desalination performance in vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) is of significant interest. Different microporous hydrophobic flat membranes of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) were investigated to that end.

Vacuum membrane distillation: Experiments and modeling

AIChE Journal, 1997
AbstractVacuum membrane distillation is a membrane‐based separation process considered here to remove volatile organic compounds from aqueous streams. Microporous hydrophobic membranes are used to separate the aqueous stream from a gas phase kept under vacuum.

Superhydrophobic modification of ceramic membranes for vacuum membrane distillation

Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2017
Abstract The hydrophobically modified ceramic membranes have great potential for energy-efficient membrane distillation. In this work, flat-sheet ceramic membranes with a superhydrophobic surface were fabricated by grafting 1 H ,1 H ,2 H ,2 H -perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane or 1 H ,1 H ,2 H ,2 H -perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane and followed by ...

Date juice concentration by vacuum membrane distillation

Separation and Purification Technology, 2020
In this work, date juices were concentrated at low temperature by Vacuum Membrane Distillation (VMD). Tests were conducted at fixed operating conditions (feed flowrate, 28 L/h; feed temperature, 28 °C; vacuum pressure, 4 mbar) on two commercial flat polypropylene membranes, different in pore size and thickness.

Modeling of pore wetting in vacuum membrane distillation

Journal of Membrane Science, 2019
Abstract In this work simulation results for the pore wetting of vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) are reported, considering heat and mass balance at liquid/vapor interface when steady state is achieved. Two cases were studied. In case 1, the system is in isothermal condition.
