Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.

Bright continuously tunable vacuum ultraviolet source for ultrafast spectroscopy

open access: yesCommunications Physics
Ultrafast electron dynamics drive phenomena such as photochemical reactions, catalysis, and light harvesting. To capture such dynamics in real-time, femtosecond to attosecond light sources are extensively used.

High-energy, high-peak-power, sub-nanosecond, spatial super-Gaussian 177 nm vacuum ultraviolet laser

open access: yesHigh Power Laser Science and Engineering
A high-energy pulsed vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) solid-state laser at 177 nm with high peak power by the sixth harmonic of a neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) amplifier in a KBe2BO3F2 prism-coupled device was demonstrated. The ultraviolet (UV)

Resolving the Cu(bdc) Conundrum: Identifying Non‐Porous Packing of Prototypical Coordination‐Network Thin Films Combining Advanced Diffraction Techniques and Computational Modelling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Cu(bdc) forms prototypical MOF thin films for which a multitude of not fully satisfactory structural models have been suggested. Combining rotating grazing‐incidence diffraction and X‐ray reflectivity on two complementary samples with density‐functional theory, we first discard the previously suggested models and then identify a non ...

Inductively Coupled Radio-frequency Plasmas as Solar Vacuum Ultraviolet Simulators

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series
The solar vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) is relevant to a variety of astrophysical phenomena. Radio-frequency (RF) plasmas of H _2 and H _2 /inert gas mixtures are convenient sources of VUV for laboratory simulations.

Long‐Range Coordination Environment Modulates Single‐Atom Local States and Systemic Impact on CO2 Photoconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Terminal groups on Cu porphyrins modulate the electronic states of single‐atom Cu centers through a long‐range electronic effect, without altering the Cu coordination geometry. Meanwhile, a multi‐descriptor framework is established that incorporates porphyrin regulation, hybrid catalyst properties, and CO2 photoreduction capabilities.

Resonance Transitions in the Spectra of the Ag6+–Ag8+ Ions

open access: yesAtoms, 2017
The spectrum of silver, excited in a vacuum spark, was recorded in the region 150–350 Å on a 3-m grazing incidence spectrograph. The resonance 4dk–(4dk−15p + 4dk−14f + 4p54dk+1) was studied in the Ag6+–Ag8+ spectra (Ag VII–Ag IX) with k = 5–3 ...

Nanoengineered Binetworks in Multifunctional Anionic Block Polymer Mesoblends for Improved Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoblends consist of a nanostructured polymer into which a second polymer is imbibed with a selective solvent. In this work, a solvent‐templatable pentablock terpolymer possessing a sulfonated midblock is modified with a hydrophilic polymer that is photocrosslinked in situ, yielding a hierarchical binetwork.

Tailoring Li‐ion Storage and Transport in Two‐Dimensional Conjugated Metal‐Organic Frameworks via Precise Nitrogen Incorporation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two nitrogen‐doped 2D conjugated metal‐organic frameworks (2D c‐MOFs, namely Cu‐Nx‐OHBA, x = 2 or 4) are synthesized, featuring precise nitrogen incorporation via rational ligand design. The Cu‐Nx‐OHBA 2D c‐MOFs are largely tailorable by varying skeletal nitrogen density, with respect to electrical conductivity, Li‐storage capacitance, and Li‐transport
