Gut Microbiota Alterations Associated With Colonization by Multidrug‐Resistant Organisms in ICU Patients: First Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Microbiota profiling showed colonized critically ill patients had lower values of dominance/evenness (Simpson's index) and richness (Observed), reaching significantly lower values of information (mean difference in Shannon index = –1.18; 95% CI, –1.84 to –0.52; p < 0.001).

The Expanding Landscape of Microbiota Medicine: Indications, Therapeutic Modalities, and the Path Towards Integrative Microbiome‐Targeting Healthcare

open access: yesMicrobiota Medicine Research, Volume 1, Issue 2, Page 63-89, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The growing recognition of the microbiome’s role in human health has propelled the emergence of microbiota medicine—a new discipline integrating microbiology, multi‐omics, and clinical science. Advances in sequencing, data integration, and interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) have transitioned the field from ...

Trends and Patterns for the Use of Herbal Medicinal Products for Gynaecological Ailments

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, Volume 40, Issue 6, Page 3580-3594, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Most Germans consider herbal medicinal products (HMPs) to be an important supplement to conventional medicine. Despite existing clinical evidence for safety and efficacy, they are still not sufficiently integrated into drug therapy of gynaecological complaints in everyday practice.

Impact of Elective Caesarean Delivery on Double Burden of Malnutrition and Its Contribution to Wealth‐Based Inequality: A Decomposition Analysis Across South Asian Countries

open access: yesPublic Health Challenges, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
Double burden of malnutrition at household level (DBMHL) is a new challenging public health concern in South Asian countries, defined by the coexistence of overweight mothers and undernourished children. Third Generation Genome Sequencing of the Endobacterium Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii subsp. demodicis Reveals Details of Its Microbe‐Host‐Interaction With the Most Complex Human Commensal, Demodex folliculorum

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
The symbiotic interaction between Demodex folliculorum and Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii subsp. demodicis. Created by the author based on genomic and functional analyses presented in this work. The tripartite interaction between the human host, the mite Demodex folliculorum, and its endosymbiont Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii subsp. demodicis.

The HIV Reservoir in the Female Reproductive Tract

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Volume 95, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Antiretrovirals can prevent the spread of replicating HIV within the host and decrease the virus in plasma to levels undetectable in clinical assays, and in genital secretions to untransmissible levels. However, during effective treatment with antiretrovirals, infectious HIV persists lifelong because the virus integrates into the host's DNA ...

Genital Immune Correlates of Seroprevalent and Seroincident Herpes Simplex Type 2 Infection Among Women Who Sell Sex in Nairobi, Kenya

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Reproductive Immunology, Volume 95, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Problem Most Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV‐2) infection is asymptomatic but increases the risk of HIV acquisition, possibly due to alterations in genital immunology. We examine associations of HSV‐2 prevalence and incidence with epithelial barrier disruption. Method of Study The study was nested within the longitudinal Maisha Fiti cohort of

Effects of vaginal microbiota transfer on social–emotional and neurodevelopment in cesarean‐born infants: 12‐month follow‐up of a pilot randomized clinical trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 6, Page 1064-1074, June 2026.
In a pilot randomized clinical trial of cesarean‐born infants, vaginal microbiota transfer improved social–emotional development at 12 months, reducing social–emotional risk and improving key subdomains, while early neurodevelopmental benefits observed at 6 months were not sustained at 12 months. Abstract Introduction To evaluate the effects of vaginal

The vaginal microbiome drives endometriosis pain

open access: yes
Abstract Despite being one of two cardinal disease symptoms, endometriosis pain is poorly understood. Using a validated mouse model, we demonstrate that endometriosis-associated vaginal dysbiosis is sufficient to induce pain in the absence of disease pathology.
