Hypnotherapy for vaginismus

Abstract The literature on hypnotherapy contains few comments, usually generalizations, on vaginismus. 2 patients with this problem are presented here. Methods used and degrees of success are described. Major stress was on hypnotic relaxation with supporting, persuading, and graded, encouraging measures.

Vaginismus ‐ iatrogenic precipitation and maintenance

Four cases of vaginismus are presented. Two of them illustrate an iatrogenic precipitation of vaginismus, one misdiagnosis of vaginismus, and one shows the use of unnecessary hymenectomy as the first choice of treatment of vaginismus.The etiology of vaginismus and the indications of first pelvic examinations are discussed.

This paper defines vaginismus in depth, discusses therapeutic options with emphasis on the psycho-therapeutic approach in combination with behavioural therapy. Of 26 couples completing such treatment, 22 (85%) on completion were able to achieve full penetrative intercourse without discomfort and reported greater fulfillment in their sexual relationship.

Case histories of 22 women seeking psychotherapy for psychogenic vaginismus were examined for family patterns. Nearly all of the women had domineering, threatening fathers who were moralistic but also sexually seductive. Vaginismus and vaginal tears

We present a case of vaginismus in which Cusco's bivalve speculum was used to exclude vaginal and cervical warts and to obtain the first cervical smear for this patient. This procedure has resulted in bilateral vaginal tears and a blood loss of 1,000 ml.
