This operation is also known as highly selective vagotomy or parietal cell vagotomy. This rare procedure is still infrequently indicated for peptic ulcer disease refractory to medical management, noncompliance with medical management, or as adjunct to plication of perforated peptic ulcer in the noncompliant patient.
