Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Headache
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain, 2015Neuromodulation is an emerging area in headache management. Through neurostimulation, multiple brain areas can be modulated to alleviate pain, hence reducing the pharmacological need. In this review, we discuss the recent development of the vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) for headache management.

Arrhythmias and vagus nerve stimulation
Heart Failure Reviews, 2010Enhancing vagal tone by delivering electrical stimulation to the vagal nerves (VNS) is emerging as a promising novel therapy in heart failure. In addition, VNS is already an FDA-approved therapy for refractory epilepsy and depression. Besides its well-known negative chronotropic, inotropic, and dromotropic effects, VNS has profound effects on cardiac ...

Vagus nerve stimulation in depression
Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, 2001Ever since the introduction of chemical and electrical convulsive treatment for psychiatric disorders in the 1930s and 1940s, biological techniques have been used extensively in the amelioration of a variety of psychiatric disorders. Techniques of recent vintage have included transcranial magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation and vagus nerve ...

Vagus nerve stimulation for epilepsy
Practical Neurology, 2020Refractory epilepsy causes physical, psychological, psychiatric and social morbidities and carries an increased risk of premature mortality. Resective neurosurgery brings the possibility of long-term seizure remission in those with focal epilepsy, but is only suitable in approximately half of the patients who undergo presurgical evaluation,1 either ...

Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2019Summary: Invasive vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is an approved treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy. Besides recognized clinical efficacy in about 60% of patients, there are major drawbacks such as invasiveness and common side effects including hoarseness, sore throat, shortness of breath, and coughing.
