The quantum chemistry of valency

Journal of Chemical Sciences, 1986
It is shown that the chemist's concept of valency can be put in quantum mechanical language. Such a quantification of valency opens up possibilities of new applications which are briefly reviewed. Valency is related to the equilibrium geometry of the molecule through a maximum valency principle.

Mixed Valence Chemistry-A Survey and Classification

1968
Publisher Summary This review is concerned with the neglected class of inorganic compounds, which contain ions of the same element in two different formal states of oxidation. Although the number of references cited in our review show that many individual examples of this class have been studied, yet they have very rarely been treated as a class, and

Synthetic Approaches to Mixed-Valence Chemistry

1980
Several preparative routes to mixed-valence materials have been examined and the effect of the synthetic variables discussed. It has been shown that solubility is a dominant factor in the successful isolation of many such materials. Soluble metal cluster complexes are susceptible to sequential oxidation/reduction reactions which lead to mixed-valence ...

Valence tautomerism in copper coordination chemistry

Inorganica Chimica Acta, 2018
Abstract Valence tautomerism in coordination chemistry is currently intensely studied, and several seminal review articles discuss important aspects of its applications in catalysis and material science. This article does not intend to comprehensively review research in this field, but to highlight the quest for new redox-active ligands for the ...
