Mixed Valence in Chemistry

1987
Mixed valence is as old as chemistry itself, Prussian blue, Fe4 [Fe(CN)6]3 14H2O and magnetite, Fe3O4, being well-known examples. Mixed valence chemistry comprises a variety of solids formed by a third of the elements in the periodic table and the subject has assumed great importance in recent years1,2.

Valence Bond Theory in Heterocyclic Chemistry

2014
This chapter deals with the application of valence bond theory in heterocyclic chemistry. A short introduction to the different valence bond methods is given, followed by illustrative results obtained by valence bond calculations. The illustrations show the applicability of the valence bond theory to obtain detailed information on the electronic ...

Valence bond theory in coordination chemistry

Journal of Chemical Education, 1962
The author disagrees that the valence bond theory has suffered a rapid fall from favor, and that there has been a consequent rise in esteem of the molecular orbit and crystal field theories.

Mixed Valency in Inorganic Chemistry

1984
The aim of these lectures is to survey the occurrence of mixed oxidation states in inorganic compounds throughout the Periodic Table and to show how chemists have sought to relate structures to physical properties. We shall focus on the extent of electron delocalization between ion sites, and the extent to which it is determined by ligand field ...

Introduction to Mixed-Valence Chemistry

1980
To begin with, some definitions: ‘mixed valency’ is one of several names, such as ‘mixed oxidation state’ or ‘non-integral oxidation state’, used to describe inorganic or metal-organic compounds in which an element is present in more than one level of oxidation.

Crystal Chemistry And Properties Of Mixed Valence Copper Oxides

Annual Review of Materials Research, 1989
The role played by the mixed valence of oxides of transition elements in the metal-like properties is well known since the discovery of the sodium tungsten bronzes Na{sub x}WO{sub 3} by Hagg and Magneli. The synthesis of mixed valence copper oxides with metal-like properties has opened the route to the discovery of superconductivity at high temperature

Colloidal Molecules from Valence‐Endowed Nanoparticles by Covalent Chemistry

Angewandte Chemie, 2018
AbstractWe demonstrate a simple method to create a variety of silica‐based colloidal molecules through the covalent assembly of site‐specifically functionalized patchy nanoparticles with complementary nanospheres. Colloidal analogues of BeBr2, BBr3 and CBr4 are obtained from sp‐, sp2‐ and sp3‐like particles, while Br2O and NBr3 analogues can be ...

Descriptive Chemistry of Mixed-Valence Compounds

1980
Mixed valence chemistry is illustrated by the presentation of the structures of diverse typical compounds. In a phenomenological description of mixed valence compounds the optical spectra of binuclear complexes are discussed in terms of the model proposed by Hush.
