Valence-bond isomer chemistry. Part IV. The valence-bond isomers of pentakis(pentafluoroethyl)pyridine

Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1973
Reaction of pentafluoropyridine with tetrafluoroethylene and caesium fluoride in dimethylformamide produces, inter alia, perfluoro-4-ethyl-, -2,4-diethyl-, -2,4,5-triethyl-, -2,3,4,6-tetraethyl-, and -pentaethyl-pyridines. In perfluoro-n-pentane solution, the last compound is isomerized by u.v.

Valence: A laboratory exercise for general chemistry

Journal of Chemical Education, 1960
In this exercise, each student carefully examines each of a set of thirteen different atomic models with different valence configurations, writing down certain pertinent observations and independently-reasoned conclusions about them.

Photoredox Chemistry of Two-Electron Mixed Valence Systems

1991
The chemistry of two-electron mixed valence dimers Mn-1—Mn+1 provides a unique foundation for the design of multielectron photochemical activation schemes. We have recently prepared a homologous Rh2 fluorophosphine series that is based on a Rh0RhII two-electron mixed valence complex, which features a trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry about a ...

Solvent and Temperature Effects in Mixed-Valence Chemistry

1991
A temperature dependence has been observed for the intervalence transfer absorption band in an unsymmetrical, ligand-bridged complex of ruthenium. The dependence has been analyzed by a free energy surfaces approach introduced by Marcus and Sutin or by a quantum mechanical approach.

The Bond Valence Method in Crystal Chemistry

1992
The concept of bond valence is defined and the dependence of bond lengths on valences described. The use of these correlations for the prediction and interpretation of bond lengths in crystals is then discussed. The crystal-chemical implications of rules for predicting bond valences of crystals are illustrated.

Mixed Valence Chemistry and Metal Chain Compounds

1975
In 1896 Alfred Werner1 began to investigate what, at that time, were thought to be two isomeric forms of sodium bis-oxalatoplatinite. The curious feature which attracted Werner’s attention to these compounds was that while one was pale yellow, the other was copper red.
