Valence: A laboratory exercise for general chemistry

Journal of Chemical Education, 1960
In this exercise, each student carefully examines each of a set of thirteen different atomic models with different valence configurations, writing down certain pertinent observations and independently-reasoned conclusions about them.

Photoredox Chemistry of Two-Electron Mixed Valence Systems [PDF]

open access: possible, 1991
The chemistry of two-electron mixed valence dimers Mn-1—Mn+1 provides a unique foundation for the design of multielectron photochemical activation schemes. We have recently prepared a homologous Rh2 fluorophosphine series that is based on a Rh0RhII two-electron mixed valence complex, which features a trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry about a ...

Redox chemistry, acid reactivity, and hydrogenation reactions of two-electron mixed valence diiridium and dirhodium complexes.

Inorganic Chemistry, 2011
The syntheses and reaction chemistry of two electron mixed-valence diphosphazane-bridged dirhodium and diiridium complexes M(2)(0,II)(tfepma)(2)(CN(t)Bu)(2)Cl(2) [M = Rh (1), Ir (2); tfepma = MeN[P(OCH(2)CF(3))(2)](2), CN(t)Bu = tert-butyl isocyanide ...

Descriptive Chemistry of Mixed-Valence Compounds

1980
Mixed valence chemistry is illustrated by the presentation of the structures of diverse typical compounds. In a phenomenological description of mixed valence compounds the optical spectra of binuclear complexes are discussed in terms of the model proposed by Hush.

Crystal Chemistry and Properties of Mixed Valence Copper Oxides

Annual Review of Materials Science, 1989
The role played by the mixed valence of oxides of transition elements in the metal-like properties is well known since the discovery of the sodium tungsten bronzes Na{sub x}WO{sub 3} by Hagg and Magneli. The synthesis of mixed valence copper oxides with metal-like properties has opened the route to the discovery of superconductivity at high temperature

Vertical valence ionization potential benchmarks from equation-of-motion coupled cluster theory and QTP functionals.

Journal of Chemical Physics, 2019
The ionization potential (IP) of a molecule quantifies the energy required to remove an electron from the system. As such, it is a fundamental quantity in the context of redox chemistry, charge transfer, and molecular electronics.

The Bond Valence Method in Crystal Chemistry

1992
The concept of bond valence is defined and the dependence of bond lengths on valences described. The use of these correlations for the prediction and interpretation of bond lengths in crystals is then discussed. The crystal-chemical implications of rules for predicting bond valences of crystals are illustrated.
