Ultra‐Fast Non‐Volatile Resistive Switching Devices with Over 512 Distinct and Stable Levels for Memory and Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A materials and device design concept that comprises a self‐assembled ultra‐thin epitaxial ion‐transporting layer, an amorphous oxide overcoat oxygen‐blocking layer, and a partial filament formed during an electroforming step is proposed for low‐current multilevel resistive switching devices.

Amphiphilic Oxo-Bridged Ruthenium “Green Dimer” for Water Oxidation

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: In 1982, an oxo-bridged dinuclear ruthenium(III) complex, known as “blue dimer,” was discovered to be active for water oxidation. In this work, a new amphiphilic ruthenium “green dimer” 2, obtained from an amphiphilic mononuclear Ru(bda) (N-OTEG)

Materials News: Interfacial chemistry and atomic arrangement of ZrO2 − La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 pillar-matrix structures

open access: yesAPL Materials, 2014
We studied ZrO2 − La2/3Sr1/3MnO3 pillar–matrix thin films which were found to show anomalous magnetic and electron transport properties. With the application of an aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope, interfacial chemistry, and atomic ...

Off‐Stoichiometry Engineering of the Electrical and Optical Properties of SrNbO3 Using Oxide Molecular Beam Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The plasma edge of transparent conducting oxide SrNbO3 shifts from ∼2 eV in the visible range to 1.37 eV in the near‐infrared region by off‐stoichiometry using the vacancy sites as quasi‐substitutional virtual elements. This work advances the stoichiometry engineering of perovskite oxides using oxide molecular beam epitaxy, allowing synthesis beyond ...

Elucidating Sodium Ion Storage Mechanisms in Hard Carbon Anodes at the Electronic Level

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐resolution, multi‐frequency continuous wave, and pulsed Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy uncover the intricate Na ion storage mechanisms in hard carbon. This study reveals the coexistence of Na ion intercalation and solvent co‐intercalation, alongside a subsequent transition of Na ions from ionic to quasi‐metallic to metallic ...

Ferrous Iron Under Oxygen‐Rich Conditions in the Deep Mantle

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2019
Recent experiments have demonstrated the existence of previously unknown iron oxides at high pressure and temperature including newly discovered pyrite‐type FeO2 and FeO2Hx phases stable at deep terrestrial lower mantle pressures and temperatures. In the

Electronegativity Seen as the Ground-State Average Valence Electron Binding Energy.

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2018
We introduce a new electronegativity scale for atoms, based consistently on ground-state energies of valence electrons. The scale is closely related to (yet different from) L. C. Allen's, which is based on configuration energies.

Biointerfacing with AgBiS2 Quantum Dots for Pseudocapacitive Photostimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that AgBiS2 quantum dots exhibit unique photoinduced pseudocapacitive charge transfer properties, enabling efficient light‐to‐electrical energy conversion. These quantum dots facilitate enhanced light absorption and transduction when integrated with ZnO nanowires, which serve as an effective charge transport medium.

Photothermal Hydrogel with Mn3O4 Nanoparticles Alleviates Intervertebral Disc Degeneration by Scavenging ROS and Regulating Extracellular Matrix Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The MPTT‐nanozyme‐hydrogel system (Mn3O4@ChS‐HA) provides a multifunctional therapeutic strategy for intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), effectively targeting oxidative stress and enhancing AF repair by restoring extracellular matrix (ECM) and redox homeostasis.
