Tetralogy of Fallot with absent pulmonary valve syndrome : an imaging challenge [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Congenital absence of pulmonary valve syndrome (APV) represents a fascinating and unique variant of congenital heart disease. It was Chever in 1847 who first described this unique structural heart defect.

A Constraint‐Based Analytical Framework for Design‐Space Analysis and Material Screening of Tubular Multilayer Dielectric Elastomer Pumps for Extracorporeal Circulatory Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A constraint‐based analytical framework maps the coupled effects of material properties, structural parameters, and operating conditions in tubular dielectric elastomer pumps for extracorporeal circulatory applications. The approach defines performance boundaries through mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic constraints and identifies feasible design ...

Biodegradable and Edible Milli‐Fluidic Logic Circuits

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Fully biodegradable and edible fluidic circuits are developed using gelatin‐based valves that operate at low pressure. Logic gates, a one‐bit memory, and a ring oscillator are demonstrated, showing that biodegradable materials can perform computation and control.

Successful Transcatheter Valve-in-Valve Implantation in a Small Deteriorated Aortic Valve Bioprosthesis

open access: yes, 2013
Increased life expectancy and improvement in clinical outcome following surgery has led to an increasing number of elderly patients with a history of prior aortic valve replacement (AVR).

Transfemoral Transseptal Mitral Valve-in-Valve-in-Valve of a Degenerated Transcatheter in Surgical Bioprosthesis

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports
The authors describe a transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve-in-valve (VIVIV) for the correction of a degenerated transcatheter in a surgical bioprosthesis, a challenging interventional scenario that will be increasingly frequent in the near future. The key steps taken were as follows: preprocedural planning integrating data from transesophageal ...

Auto‐Routing Fluidic Printed Circuit Boards

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces (STREAM) software tool for routing efficiently advanced macrofluidics, an open‐source software tool for automating the design of 3D‐printable fluidic circuit boards. STREAM streamlines tube routing and layout, enabling the rapid fabrication of fluidic networks for soft robotics, lab‐on‐a‐chip devices, microfluidics, and biohybrid ...

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

The Rapid Evolution of Transcatheter Mitral Valve-in-Valve and Valve-in-Ring Procedures

open access: yesStructural Heart, 2018
In this issue of Structural Heart, Sengodan et al. 1 provide a detailed systematic review of published studies of transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve (VIV) and valve-in-ring (VIR) procedures for fa...

ChicGrasp: Imitation‐Learning‐Based Customized Dual‐Jaw Gripper Control for Manipulation of Delicate, Irregular Bio‐Products

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Automated poultry processing lines still rely on humans to lift slippery, easily bruised carcasses onto a shackle conveyor. Deformability, anatomical variance, and hygiene rules make conventional suction and scripted motions unreliable. We present ChicGrasp, an end‐to‐end hardware‐software co‐designed imitation learning framework, to offer a ...
