Fish Swim Bladder‐Derived ECM Hydrogels Effectively Treat Myocardial Ischemic Injury through Immunomodulation and Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A unique hydrogel based on extracellular matrix from fish swim bladder, which is suitable for transcatheter delivery and possesses remarkable reparative capabilities for treating heart failure, is developed. It emerges as a multi‐effect factor profoundly influencing inflammation regulation, angiogenesis, and myocardial metabolism.

Advancing aortic stenosis assessment: validation of fluid-structure interaction models against 4D flow MRI data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Systematic in vivo validations of computational models of the aortic valve remain scarce, despite successful validation against in vitro data. Utilizing a combination of computed tomography and 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging data, we developed patient-specific fluid-structure interaction models of the aortic valve immersed in the aorta for five ...

A simulation technique for slurries interacting with moving parts and deformable solids with applications [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
A numerical method for particle-laden fluids interacting with a deformable solid domain and mobile rigid parts is proposed and implemented in a full engineering system. The fluid domain is modeled with a lattice Boltzmann representation, the particles and rigid parts are modeled with a discrete element representation, and the deformable solid domain is

Injectable and Sprayable Thermoresponsive Hydrogel with Fouling‐Resistance as an Effective Barrier to Prevent Postoperative Cardiac Adhesions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Postoperative cardiac adhesions lead to numerous difficulties in reoperation procedures. Here, a thermo‐responsive in situ formed hydrogel is shown to can reliably cover the wounds after a convenient spraying or injection and significantly reduce adhesion formation in primary and recurrent cardiac injury adhesion models.

Perioperative Outcomes After Bioprosthetic Valve Replacement in Patients Sensitized to Alpha-Gal

open access: yesAnnals of Thoracic Surgery Short Reports
Background: Alpha-gal syndrome from tick bites, due to sensitivity to alpha-gal, can cause severe allergies. Heart valve implants contain alpha-gal, yet alpha-gal syndrome screening is not standard before valve replacement.

Aortic Valve Replacement

open access: yesThe Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology, 1990
Indications for aortic valve replacement can be summarized into two disease processes, moderate to severe aortic stenosis (with or without symptoms) and moderate to severe aortic insufficiency. Fortunately, standards of care differ with each physician and so indications for aortic valve replacement are not clearly defined. To understand how the surgeon

Superlattice Engineering on 2D Bi2Te3‐Sb2Te3 Chalcogenides

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents an innovative approach to fabricating 2D Bi2Te3‐Sb2Te3 chalcogenide superlattices in wrapped, lateral, and vertical configurations. Utilizing a novel precursor switching method, chemical vapor deposition, and post‐growth techniques, the research achieves controlled superlattices with sharp interfaces.

Double‐Sided Conformable Piezoelectric Force Sensor with Enhanced Performance and Bending Correction

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
This work addresses the challenge of measuring low forces on soft surfaces. An innovative conformable piezoelectric force sensor is presented. The use of a highly flexible TPU substrate enables a tenfold increase in the sensor's sensitivity to compression while a double‐sided structure prevents the signal from being disturbed by bending due to ...

Soft Electronic Switches and Adaptive Logic Gates Based on Nanostructured Gold Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable threshold logic gates and reversible switches are here demonstrated on a flexible and stretchable substrate, by exploiting the adaptability of the complex network composed of gold cluster‐assembled film embedded in the polymer matrix.
