PreMa: Predictive Maintenance of Solenoid Valve in Real-Time at Embedded Edge-Level [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In industrial process automation, sensors (pressure, temperature, etc.), controllers, and actuators (solenoid valves, electro-mechanical relays, circuit breakers, motors, etc.) make sure that production lines are working under the pre-defined conditions.

Direct Ink Writing of Conductive Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the use of direct ink writing (DIW) for fabricating conductive hydrogels with customizable 3D structures. It outlines the rheological requirements for successful DIW, followed by an exploration of the materials and ink formulations used to impart electronic and/or ionic conductivity to hydrogels while maintaining printability ...

Machine Learning-Based Predictive Model of Aortic Valve Replacement Modality Selection in Severe Aortic Stenosis Patients

open access: yesMedical Sciences, 2023
The current recommendation for bioprosthetic valve replacement in severe aortic stenosis (AS) is either surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Biofilm Control by Active Topography with Mucin Coating

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a new antifouling strategy based on a bioinspired design. Mucin coating enhances biofilm control by active topography with beating micron‐sized pillars. Besides the mechanical force of beating pillars, the antibiofilm activities also involve biological factors since mucin coating inhibits swarming motility and c‐di‐GMP synthesis in ...

Complex mitral valve anatomy and open issues in transcatheter mitral valve replacement

open access: yesSurgery in Practice and Science, 2023
Higher and prohibitive mitral valve disease surgical scenarios are preferred cases for transcatheter mitral valve replacement as they offer unrelenting mitral valve regurgitation reduction.

Discovery of an Intrinsic Antiferromagnetic Semiconductor EuSc2Te4 With Magnetism‐Driven Nonlinear Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
EuSc₂Te₄, an antiferromagnetic semiconductor, exhibits a nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE) characterized by quadratic current–voltage behavior. Combined experimental and theoretical studies reveal that this NLHE is linked to its antiferromagnetism and involves contributions from the quantum metric.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Valleytronics in merging Dirac cones: All-electric-controlled valley filter, valve and universal reversible logic gate [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 96, 245410 (2017), 2017
Despite much anticipation of valleytronics as a candidate to replace the ageing CMOS-based information processing, its progress is severely hindered by the lack of practical ways to manipulate valley polarization all-electrically in an electrostatic setting. Here we propose a class of all-electric-controlled valley filter, valve and logic gate based on

Fully Bio‐Based Epoxy Resins from Liquefied Wood for Chemically Recyclable Wood Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bio‐based and chemically recyclable epoxy resin derived from liquefied wood and its use in wood coatings is presented. The resin exhibits mechanical, thermal, and water‐resistant properties comparable to commercial coatings and can be chemically recycled and reused. This approach provides fast access to glossy and fully biobased durable wood coatings
