Results of matching valve and root repair to aortic valve and root pathology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
ObjectiveFor patients with aortic root pathology and aortic valve regurgitation, aortic valve replacement is problematic because no durable bioprosthesis exists, and mechanical valves require lifetime anticoagulation. This study sought to assess outcomes

Full Wafer Scale Manufacturing of Directly Printed TiO2 Metalenses at Visible Wavelengths with Outstanding Focusing Efficiencies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The highest experimentally determined focusing efficiency is reported here by using the direct imprinting of all‐inorganic TiO2 metalens arrays. Absolute efficiency greater than 80% and relative efficiency greater than 90% are achieved by optimization of all fabrication parameters controllable in the additive manufacturing process.

High-sensitivity troponin I concentrations are a marker of an advanced hypertrophic response and adverse outcomes in patients with aortic stenosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Aims: High-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (cTnI) assays hold promise in detecting the transition from hypertrophy to heart failure in aortic stenosis.

Capillary‐Driven 3D Open Fluidic Networks for Versatile Continuous Flow Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The capillary‐driven 3D open fluidic networks (OFNs), composed of connected polyhedral frames, enable precise, programmable, and versatile manipulation of unary, binary, and multiple continuous flows in both spatial and temporal dimensions. OFNs represent a significant leap beyond conventional microfluidics, unlocking new possibilities for selective ...

Incidence and progression of mild aortic regurgitation after Tirone David reimplantation valve-sparing aortic root replacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
ObjectiveThe study objective was to determine whether recurrent or residual mild aortic regurgitation, which occurs after valve-sparing aortic root replacement, progresses over time.MethodsBetween 2003 and 2008, 154 patients underwent Tirone David-V ...

Twofers and Transaortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesJACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, 2015
The concept of twofers is widely used in a variety of situations and applications ranging from cabling devices in theatrical stage lighting to Broadway tickets to 2 hamburgers for a quarter at Tucker’s Twofers to items of merchandise to something that “satisfies 2 criteria or ...

Polystyrene Nanoplastic‐Mercury Complexes Detection by Electrolyte‐Gated Carbon Nanotube Field‐Effect Transistor‐Based Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
An electrolyte‐gated field effect transistor sensor is used to detect an environmentally relevant nanoplastic model. The sensor identifies the presence of polystyrene nanoplastics in water dispersions without significantly altering its performance in the presence of mercury on the nanoplastics’ surface, indicating that it may be utilized in ...

Thermodynamic Stability and Site‐Specific Distribution of Graphitic and Pyridinic Nitrogen in Graphene Moiré on Ru(0001)

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Nitrogen doping on Ru(0001) is investigated using ion implantation and annealing, tuning the distribution of graphitic (GN) and pyridinic (PN) nitrogen sites. STM, XPS, and DFT identified the structure and site distribution, and a thermodynamic phase diagram showed that GN is most stable at the Atop region, while PN preferred boundaries between FCC and

A Sleeve Alters the Pressure‐Stretch Curve of a Hyperelastic Balloon to Enable Pre‐Programmed Sequencing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This article demonstrates that encasing a hyperelastic balloon in an inextensible sleeve greatly increases its burst pressure. This simple mechanical behavior can be used to produce an asymmetric inflation‐deflation sequence for coupled balloons with different thicknesses so they could serve as a soft robot's rear and front anchors when driven from a ...

3D Wiring Microelectrodes in a PMMA Microfluidic Device by Vacuum Filling Method

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This paper proposes a method for fabricating 3D wiring microelectrodes in arbitrary designs within 3D‐printed microfluidics. By attaching a PDMS lid and using vacuum filling, low‐melting‐point alloy (LMA) is introduced into microchannels. This enables the creation of 50 µm microelectrodes, including complex shapes.
