Plasmatrough exohiss waves observed by Van Allen Probes: Evidence for leakage from plasmasphere and resonant scattering of radiation belt electrons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Exohiss waves are whistler mode hiss observed in the plasmatrough region. We present a case study of exohiss waves and the corresponding background plasma distributions observed by the Van Allen Probes in the dayside low-latitude region.

Low‐harmonic magnetosonic waves observed by the Van Allen Probes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2015
AbstractPurely compressional electromagnetic waves (fast magnetosonic waves), generated at multiple harmonics of the local proton gyrofrequency, have been observed by various types of satellite instruments (fluxgate and search coil magnetometers and electric field sensors), but most recent studies have used data from search coil sensors, and many have ...

Disappearance of plasmaspheric hiss following interplanetary shock [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Plasmaspheric hiss is one of the important plasma waves controlling radiation belt dynamics. Its spatiotemporal distribution and generation mechanism are presently the object of active research.

MHD‐Test Particles Simulations of Moderate CME and CIR‐Driven Geomagnetic Storms at Solar Minimum

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2021
As part of the Whole Heliosphere and Planetary Interactions initiative, contrasting drivers of radiation belt electron response at solar minimum have been investigated with MHD‐test particle simulations for the May 13–14, 2019 Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)‐

Statistical Analysis of Pi2 Pulsations Observed by Van Allen Probes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2022
AbstractThe relative importance of propagating and cavity mode waves remains an important question regarding the generation of Pi2 pulsations detected on the ground. To determine the wave mode, we statistically generate spatial maps of magnetospheric oscillations that are coherent with ground Pi2 pulsations. The magnetospheric observations were made by

Single cis‐elements in brassinosteroid‐induced upregulated genes are insufficient to recruit both redox states of the BIL1/BZR1 DNA‐binding domain

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phytohormone brassinosteroid‐induced gene regulation by the transcription factor BIL1/BZR1 involves redox‐dependent DNA‐binding alternation and interaction with the transcription factor PIF4. The reduced BIL1/BZR1 dimer binds preferred cis‐elements, while oxidation alters its oligomerization state and disrupts DNA‐binding ability.

Propagation and Dispersion of Lightning-Generated Whistlers Measured From the Van Allen Probes

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2021
We study the propagation and attenuation of lightning-generated whistler (LGW) waves in near-Earth space (L ≤ 3) through the statistical study of three specific quantities extracted from data recorded by NASA’s Van Allen Probes mission, from 2012 to 2019:

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

Resonant scattering of energetic electrons by unusual low-frequency hiss [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We quantify the resonant scattering effects of the unusual low-frequency dawnside plasmaspheric hiss observed on 30 September 2012 by the Van Allen Probes. In contrast to normal (∼100-2000 Hz) hiss emissions, this unusual hiss event contained most of its

A machine-learning-based electron density (MLED) model in the inner magnetosphere

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics, 2022
Plasma density is an important factor in determining wave-particle interactions in the magnetosphere. We develop a machine-learning-based electron density (MLED) model in the inner magnetosphere using electron density data from Van Allen Probes between ...
