Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Shock-induced prompt relativistic electron acceleration in the inner magnetosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present twin Van Allen Probes spacecraft observations of the effects of a solar wind shock impacting the magnetosphere on 8 October 2013. The event provides details both of the accelerating electric fields associated with the shock and the response of

Structural and functional analysis of Bacillus sarcosine oxidase and its activity toward cyclic imino acids

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Sarcosine oxidase from Bacillus sp. (SoxB) recognizes l‐proline (l‐Pro), d‐proline (d‐Pro), and l‐thioproline (l‐Tpr) as minor substrates. In this study, we measured their absorption spectra, determined the crystal structures of their enzyme complexes, and performed site‐directed mutagenesis of key residues.

Interplay between RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures in gene regulation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Methodological advances in mapping transcriptome‐wide RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures have started to uncover the potential of RNP conformations in gene regulation. Competing RNA–RNA, RNA‐protein and protein–protein interactions shape the compaction and function of RNPs throughout their lifetime and may provide novel therapeutic targets in ...

Nonstorm time dynamics of electron radiation belts observed by the Van Allen Probes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Storm time electron radiation belt dynamics have been widely investigated for many years. Here we present a rarely reported nonstorm time event of electron radiation belt evolution observed by the Van Allen Probes during 21-24 February 2013.

Quasiperiodic Emissions: Fine Structure Corresponding to a Bouncing Wave

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Quasiperiodic (QP) emissions are whistler‐mode electromagnetic waves observed in the Earth's inner magnetosphere whose intensity has a nearly periodic time modulation with typical modulation periods on the order of minutes. Some events exhibit, on top of

Chorus Wave Properties From Van Allen Probes: Quantifying the Impact of the Sheath Corrected Electric Field

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
A sheath impedance model has recently been developed to describe how the variable coupling impedance between the Van Allen Probes instrumentation and the ambient plasma affects both the amplitude and phase of electric field wave measurements.

Cytokine, Chemokine, and Neurofilament Light Chain Signatures in LGI1 Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To investigate the value of cytokine, chemokine, and neurofilament light chain (NfL) concentrations in predicting relapse risk, chronic epilepsy, and functional impairment in LGI1 autoimmune encephalitis (AE). Methods Cytokines/chemokines (IL‐1‐beta, IL‐2, IL‐4, IL‐5, IL‐6, IL‐8/CXCL8, IL‐10, IL‐12p70, IL‐13, IL‐17A, GM‐CSF, TNF ...

Cross Correlation Between Plasmaspheric Hiss Waves and Enhanced Radiation Levels at Aviation Altitudes

open access: yesSpace Weather
Enhanced radiation in the Earth's atmosphere can pose serious hazards to pilots, aircraft passengers, and commercial space travelers. Recent results have shown, statistically, that there is a strong correlation between dose rates observed by Automated ...

Long‐Term Evaluation of Givinostat in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and Natural History Comparisons

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives This ongoing, open‐label extension study is evaluating the long‐term safety, tolerability, and efficacy of givinostat, a Class I and II histone deacetylase inhibitor, in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Methods The recruited patients completed one of two prior clinical studies (one Phase 2 and one Phase 3 [EPIDYS ...
