What Causes Radiation Belt Enhancements: A Survey of the Van Allen Probes Era

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2018
We survey radiation belt enhancement events during the Van Allen Probes era to determine what mechanism is the dominant cause of enhancements and where it is most effective.

Lived and care experiences of chronic musculoskeletal shoulder pain in Australian adults: A qualitative study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives Australian evidence on lived and care experiences of chronic musculoskeletal shoulder pain (CMSP), irrespective of disorder classification or disease, is limited. However, such evidence is important for person‐centred care and informing local service pathways and care guidelines or standards.

Simulations of inner magnetosphere dynamics with an expanded RAM-SCB model and comparisons with Van Allen Probes observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Simulations from our newly expanded ring current-atmosphere interactions model with self-consistent magnetic field (RAM-SCB), now valid out to 9 R E, are compared for the first time with Van Allen Probes observations.

EMIC wave spatial and coherence scales as determined from multipoint Van Allen Probe measurements

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2016
Electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves can provide a strong source of energetic electron pitch angle scattering. These waves are often quite localized, thus their spatial extent can have a large effect on their overall scattering efficiency.

The Evolving Space Weather System—Van Allen Probes Contribution

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2014
AbstractThe overarching goal and purpose of the study of space weather is clear—to understand and address the issues caused by solar disturbances on humans and technological systems. Space weather has evolved in the past few decades from a collection of concerned agencies and researchers to a critical function of the National Weather Service of NOAA ...

LOXHD1 and RHOB Expression by Monocytes Predicts Progressive Systemic Sclerosis associated Interstitial Lung Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective A leading cause of death among scleroderma (SSc) patients, interstitial lung disease (ILD) remains challenging to prognosticate. The discovery of biomarkers that accurately determine which patients would benefit from close monitoring and aggressive therapy would be an essential clinical tool.

Chronic Opioids in Gout: A Matched Cohort Study from the Veteran's Health Administration

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective Though used frequently to treat flare, risk of chronic opioid exposure in gout has not been well defined. In this study, we examined the hypothesis that people with gout are more likely than individuals without gout to be prescribed chronic opioids over time.

Ion nose spectral structures observed by the Van Allen Probes

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2016
AbstractWe present a statistical study of nose‐like structures observed in energetic hydrogen, helium, and oxygen ions near the inner edge of the plasma sheet. Nose structures are spectral features named after the characteristic shapes of energy bands or gaps in the energy‐time spectrograms of in situ measured ion fluxes.

Virtual or in‐person: does it matter? Comparing pain, function, quality of life, self‐efficacy and physical function outcomes of virtual, hybrid and in‐person GLA:D Canada participants

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective This study aimed to determine if program format (in‐person, virtual, hybrid) results in differences in three‐month outcomes of pain, function, quality of life, self‐efficacy and chair stands in a hip/knee osteoarthritis management program. Methods A secondary analysis of the GLA:DTM Canada database was completed.

Hip morphology‐based osteoarthritis risk prediction models: development and external validation using individual participant data from the World COACH Consortium

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objectives This study aims to develop hip morphology‐based radiographic hip osteoarthritis (RHOA) risk prediction models and investigates the added predictive value of hip morphology measurements and the generalizability to different populations. Methods We combined data from nine prospective cohort studies participating in the World COACH consortium ...
