Generalized van der Waals equation of state [PDF]
The quantitative thermodynamic effect of adding a weak, long-range attraction to inverse-power repulsive potentials is studied. The resulting phase diagrams exhibit two fluid phases and a solid phase, a critical point, a triple point, and, for sufficiently soft repulsions, an additional solid phase with an additional triple point.

The van der Waals equation of state is obtained as the first- order correction to the ideal gas equation and some observational consequences are discussed: the correlation of the critical parameters, the Joule–Thomson coefficient, the inversion curve, and the determination of the vapor pressure.

In this chapter we shall show how a computer can help us to gain a deeper understanding of a simple equation of physics and to test the agreement between theory and experiment. We consider the van der Waals gas equation. It is obtained from the ideal gas equation by including corrections for real gases.

A Modification of Van Der Waals' Equation
Physical Review, 1922The proposed equation is $(p+\frac{a}{{v}^{2}})(v\ensuremath{-}b)=\frac{\mathrm{RT}}{(1+\frac{{\ensuremath{\psi}}^{2}}{{T}^{2}})}$, where $\ensuremath{\psi}$ is a characteristic temperature. It represents the behavior of C${\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ and other substances more closely and gives better values of the ratio $\frac{{T}_{c}}{{p}_{c}{v}_{c}}$.

In this paper, we show that in the case of the potential made up of a repulsive and an attractive part the virial equation of state can be put into a form similar to the van der Waals equation of state and thus the form of the van der Waals equation of state is generic to such a class of potentials.

van der Waals equation of state for a fluid in a nanopore
Physical Review E, 2002A generalization of the van der Waals equation of state is presented for a confined fluid in a nanopore. The pressure in the fluid, confined in a narrow pore of infinite length, has tensorial character. From this hypothesis, the Helmholtz free energy is constructed and expressions for the axial and transversal components of the pressure tensor are ...

From van der Waals to VTPR: The systematic improvement of the van der Waals equation of state
The Journal of Supercritical Fluids, 2010Abstract Today the synthesis, design and optimization of the different processes in the oil and gas processing, pharmaceutical, food and environmental industry is carried out by solving the balance equations of a mathematical model of the unit operation or the whole plant with the help of process simulators.

Augmented van der Waals equations of state: SAFT-VR versus Yukawa based van der Waals equation
Fluid Phase Equilibria, 2011Abstract Performance of the SAFT-VR equation of state developed for the hard sphere based simple fluids, namely the square-well, Sutherland and Yukawa fluids, is examined by comparing its results with simulation data and an augmented van der Waals (vdW) equation based on a Yukawa (Y) reference.

Van der Waals equation in a nonextensive scenario
Physics Letters A, 2001Abstract We discuss a nonextensive generalization of the van der Waals equation, that reduces to the original one in the limit in which the nonextensivity parameter q tends to unity and conventional extensivity is recovered. The whole procedure is carried out in analytic fashion for 1− q small enough.

A modified van der Waals equation of state
Fluid Phase Equilibria, 1983Abstract A modified van der Waals equation of state is presented. The co-volume in the repulsion term is expressed as a logarithmic function of molar volume. Also, the exponent (typically two) in the attraction term is considered as an adjustable parameter. None of the adjustable parameters are temperature dependent.
