Shock Wave in van der Waals Gas

Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 2022
Abstract In this work, an analytical analysis of the dynamics of a van der Waals gas flow passing through a direct shock wave was performed. For this purpose, modified Rankine-Hugoniot conditions were used. The influence of parameters α and β of the van der Waals model and the pressure jump in the shock adiabat was analyzed.

Convergence of Strong Shock in a Van der Waals Gas

SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2006
Strong cylindrical and spherical shock waves, collapsing at the center (or axis) of symmetry, are studied for a Van der Waals gas. The perturbation technique applied in this paper provides a global solution to the implosion problem, yielding the results for Guderley’s local self‐similar solution, which is valid only in the vicinity of the center/axis ...

On the van der Waals gas flow in a thermal jet

Journal of Engineering Thermophysics, 2014
Stationary subsonic and supersonic van der Waals gas flows in a thermal jet are considered. It is shown that in the case of ideal gas in length of both cooled and heated jets, temperature extremums can be observed, which is associated with the existence of bifurcation values of the Speed number, M = 1 and \(M = 1/\sqrt \gamma \). Concerning the van der

van der Waals gas bubble as a dynamical system

Physical Review A, 1988
A van der Waals fluid contained in a bubble under constant surface tension and temperature is formulated as a dynamical system. The temperature and surface tension determine the nature of the equilibrium solutions. The bifurcation set is a cusp where the cusp point is a shifted critical point, thus modifying the van der Waals critical point.
