Nanostructured Electrocatalysts for All‐Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries
Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2015AbstractVanadium redox reactions have been considered as a key factor affecting the energy efficiency of the all‐vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs). This redox reaction determines the reaction kinetics of whole cells. However, poor kinetic reversibility and catalytic activity towards the V2+/V3+ and VO2+/VO2+ redox couples on the commonly used ...

The Vanadium Redox Flow Battery: an Asymptotic Perspective
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 2019Summary: Asymptotic methods are used to analyze a time-dependent two-dimensional (2D) model for the operation of a vanadium redox flow battery -- an energy storage technology that has attracted much attention recently. The model takes into account mass, momentum, and charge conservation involving a total of seven ionic species in two porous electrodes ...

Economics of vanadium redox flow battery membranes
Journal of Power Sources, 2015Abstract The membrane is a key component of the vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) in terms of electrochemical performance as well as costs. The standard material Nafion ® is cost intensive and therefore several alternative materials are in the focus of research.

Vanadium redox reactions and carbon electrodes for vanadium redox flow battery
Electrochimica Acta, 1991The redox reactions of vanadium ions in sulfuric ,acid, which are used for anolyte and catholyte in a redox flow battery, have been investigated on a GRC (graphite reinforcement carbon) electrode. Two types of carbon fiber electrodes (GF-20 and BW-309) have been evaluated for the battery electrode.

Membrane Materials for Vanadium Redox Flow Battery
2020This chapter discusses the membrane materials for vanadium redox flow battery (RFB), a large-scale energy storage technique toward the grid. The membrane is one of the key components in RFBs, which closely impacts the cost, lifetime, and performance of the batteries.

Hydrocarbon Membrane for Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries
ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2015With the expanding need for large electrical energy storage systems in connection with renewable energy sources, flow batteries, have been enormously considered due to their high flexibility in upgrade and low cost associated with scale-up. Of all the flow batteries, vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) use of same element in both half-cell solutions ...

Novel vanadium chloride/polyhalide redox flow battery
Journal of Power Sources, 2003Abstract This paper describes a novel redox flow cell which employs a polyhalide solution in the positive half-cell electrolyte and a vanadium(II)/vanadium(III) chloride redox couple as the negative half-cell electrolyte. During charging, the bromide ions in the positive half-cell are considered to undergo oxidation to the polyhalide ion Br 2 Cl ...
