In this chapter, we study the application of dissimilarity metrics in order to improve the discovery phase of reactive routing protocols. The goal is to reduce the number of route request packets sent by the routing protocol to find a route between a source node and a destination node.

Is SDN the solution for NDN-VANETs?
2017 16th Annual Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop (Med-Hoc-Net), 2017Named Data Networking (NDN) is a future Internet architecture suitable for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs), since it provides solutions to frequent topology changes in VANETs. In NDN messages are exchanged according to their content and not to the location of the hosts. SDN provides centralized network control.

Advances in Position Based Routing Towards ITS Enabled FoG-Oriented VANET–A Survey
IEEE transactions on intelligent transportation systems (Print), 2020With the rapid growth in connected vehicles and related innovative applications, it is getting keen interest among the researchers. Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) comprise of interconnected vehicles with sensing capabilities to exchange traffic ...

Proceedings of the sixth ACM international workshop on VehiculAr InterNETworking, 2009
Security plays a critical role in Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs). In the absence of secure mechanisms, malicious parties could inject bogus information, at best robbing VANETs of their safety benefits or at worst causing accidents. Unfortunately, VANETs pose unique new research challenges, preventing the use of existing network security mechanisms ...

Optimal assessments in VANET: The Oracle
2010 IFIP Wireless Days, 2010We discuss the accuracy of a mechanism, called Oracle, to assess position and transmission ranges in VANET. We prove that, in the best case, the assessments of the oracle are exact. Moreover, we prove that the average case of the Oracle coincides with its best case. Therefore the Oracle is optimal.

VERGILIUS: A Scenario Generator for VANET
2010 IEEE 71st Vehicular Technology Conference, 2010Vehicular networks are on the fast track to become a reality either through a car manufacturer that introduces a communication device in the car electronics or through an aftermarket vendor such a GPS navigator or a in-vehicle entertainment system. This paper introduces VERGILIUS a nouvelle urban mobility and propagation toolbox designed to streamline ...

Modeling in-network aggregation in VANETs
IEEE Communications Magazine, 2011The multitude of applications envisioned for vehicular ad hoc networks requires efficient communication and dissemination mechanisms to prevent network congestion. In-network data aggregation promises to reduce bandwidth requirements and enable scalability in large vehicular networks.

Mobile networks in compared to wired networks have unique characteristics. In mobile networks, frequent network topology changes may bring about by node mobility, which are rare in wired networks. In contrast to the stable link capacity of wired networks, wireless link capacity continually varies because of the impacts from transmission power, receiver

A probabilistic routing protocol in VANET
Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Advances in Mobile Computing and Multimedia, 2009The key attribute that distinguishes Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET) from Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) is scale. While MANET networks involve up to one hundred nodes and are short lived, being deployed in support of special-purpose operations, VANET networks involve millions of vehicles on thousands of kilometers of highways and city streets. Being

Mechanism for Privacy Preservation in VANETS
International Journal of Grid and High Performance Computing, 2010This paper proposes a mechanism for sustaining privacy of a vehicle in a vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) through pseudonym update. In a VANET, vehicles on the road are involved in dissemination of information as they move. An association can be formed between the physical location of the source vehicle and the transmitted messages.
