Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

1D periodic potentials with gaps vanishing at k=0

open access: yes, 2006
Appearance of energy bands and gaps in the dispersion relations of a periodic potential is a standard feature of Quantum Mechanics. We investigate the class of one-dimensional periodic potentials for which all gaps vanish at the center of the Brillouin zone. We characterize them through a necessary and sufficient condition.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Vanishing ice patches and archaeological potential?

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology
Melting alpine ice threatens (pre)historic archaeological sites. Current trends suggest loss of ice will continue. Here, we present recent fluctuations in yearly minimum extent from 2017 to 2024 for three central Norwegian ice patches: Storhornet, Elghøa

Histopathological Features of Vanishing Testes in 332 Boys: What Is Its Significance? A Retrospective Study From a Tertiary Hospital

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2022
The purpose of this study is to analyze the histopathological features of resected testicular remnant specimens, ascertain the incidence of the presence of either germ cells (GCs) or seminiferous tubules (SNTs), and assess whether surgical excision of ...

Non-relativistic classical mechanics for spinning particles

open access: yes, 2004
We study the classical dynamics of non-relativistic particles endowed with spin. Non-vanishing Zitterbewegung terms appear in the equation of motion also in the small momentum limit.

Holographic Fermi and Non-Fermi Liquids with Transitions in Dilaton Gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We study the two-point function for fermionic operators in a class of strongly coupled systems using the gauge-gravity correspondence. The gravity description includes a gauge field and a dilaton which determines the gauge coupling and the potential ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Squashed, magnetized black holes in D = 5 minimal gauged supergravity

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
We construct a new class of black hole solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with a negative cosmological constant. These configurations are cohomogeneity-1, with two equal-magnitude angular momenta. In the generic case, they
