Do political relations affect exports to China? Evidence from the ‘Quad’

open access: yesThe World Economy, Volume 45, Issue 9, Page 2882-2901, September 2022., 2022
Abstract This paper quantifies the effects of shocks in political relations on merchandise goods exports to China for the’Quad’ countries, namely Australia, India, Japan and the USA, between 1998 and 2018. Using a vector auto‐regression approach, our estimates suggest that deteriorating political relations only have short‐ and long‐run effects on India'

Is inflation caused by deteriorating inflation expectations or excessive monetary growth?

open access: yesEconomic Affairs, Volume 42, Issue 2, Page 259-274, June 2022., 2022
Abstract The near‐universal practice of inflation targeting has strengthened the belief of central banks that all that is needed to control inflation is to anchor expectations with a credible inflation target. The use of Taylor rule augmented DSGE models for policy analysis and forecasting adds credence to the view that, provided inflation expectations

A consistent specification test for dynamic quantile models

open access: yesQuantitative Economics, Volume 13, Issue 1, Page 125-151, January 2022., 2022
Correct specification of a conditional quantile model implies that a particular conditional moment is equal to zero. We nonparametrically estimate the conditional moment function via series regression and test whether it is identically zero using uniform functional inference.

THE VAR AT RISK [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Theoretical and Applied Finance, 2010
I show that the structure of the firm is not neutral with respect to regulatory capital budgeted under rules which are based on the Value-at-Risk. Indeed, when a holding company has the liberty to divide its risk into as many subsidiaries as needed, and when the subsidiaries are subject to capital requirements according to the Value-at-Risk budgeting ...

Carbonatation and Decarbonatation Kinetics in the La2O3-La2O2CO3 System under CO2 Gas Flows

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2010
The carbonatation of La2O3 oxide and the decarbonatation of lanthanum carbonate phase La2O2CO3 are investigated using thermal and thermogravimetry analyses under CO2 gas flow.

Gauge transformations of Spin-Orbit interactions in graphene

open access: yes, 2015
Inclusion of spin-dependent interactions in graphene in the vicinity of the Dirac points can be posed in terms of non-Abelian gauge potentials. Such gauge potentials being surrogates of physical electric fields and material parameters, only enjoy a ...

Bionics Solution to Learn the Arm Reaching with Collision Avoidance

open access: yesApplied Bionics and Biomechanics, 2005
This article presents a learning model that simulates the control of an anthropomorphic arm kinematics motion. The objective is to reach and grasp a static prototypic object placed behind different kinds of obstacle in size and position.

Life in deep subsurface

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2016
Life extends far deeper into the Earth's subsurface than presumed possible 30 years ago. In the past, it was assumed that life is a surface phenomenon, and that even “hardy prokaryotic types” are not capable of living deeper than tens of meters below the
