Thermal tolerance is linked to anatomical but not morphological leaf traits in woody species of Andean tropical montane forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 6, Page 1537-1549, June 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The world is experiencing a rise in global temperatures as a result of climate change. Higher temperatures along with more frequent heat waves negatively impact physiological levels and ultimately lead to plant death.

Behind the lenses: Biases in the contribution of wildlife photography to biodiversity representation

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 7, Issue 2, Page 541-556, February 2025.
Abstract Nature‐related visual media has a significant impact on today's society by engaging the public in conservation problems and promoting pro‐environmental behaviours. Although major attention has been paid to how some types of visual media (e.g. documentaries) offer unrealistic portrayals of the natural world, biases on representation by wildlife

Biodistance Analysis via Dental Phenotypic Diversity in Early Collective Burials at Cerro Juan Díaz, Panamá (30–650 CE) [Análisis de Biodistancia Mediante la Diversidad Fenotípica Dental en los Entierros Colectivos Tempranos del Cerro Juan Díaz, Panamá (30–650 EC)]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 186, Issue 1, January 2025.
PCoA plot showing biodistance by age at the Cerro Juan Díaz site in Central Panamá. ABSTRACT Objectives Burial space reuse and prolonged interaction with the dead were common practices in the Isthmo‐Colombian Area, dating back to at least the Early Ceramic Period in the Greater Coclé region.

Differential responses of community‐level functional traits to mid‐ and late‐season experimental drought in a temperate grassland

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 10, Page 2292-2306, October 2024.
These findings suggest that functional trait composition of grassland communities may shift under climate change‐induced drought, depending on the growing season timings. Trait‐based attempts to predict ecosystem functioning must account for such temporal variation in community trait values.

Physiological thermal niches, elevational ranges and thermal stress in dendrobatid frogs: An integrated approach

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 51, Issue 10, Page 1880-1893, October 2024.
Abstract Aim We investigated the relationship between thermal physiology, elevational distribution and thermal stress among nine closely related dendrobatid frogs during their aquatic stage by employing an integrated approach, combining thermal physiology, environmental temperature modelling and predictive assessments of current and future exposure to ...

Early Colonial Diet in El Japón, Xochimilco, Mexico: Examining dietary continuity through stable isotope analysis of bone collagen and bioapatite

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Biological Anthropology, Volume 184, Issue 3, July 2024.
Location of the Colonial period site of El Japón (San Gregorio Atlapulco, Mexico City). Abstract Objectives Early colonial documents from central Mesoamerica detail raising and planting of European livestock and crops alongside native ones.
