Modulations in Multi-Periodic Blue Variables in the LMC

open access: yes, 2009
As shown by Mennickent, et al(2003), a subset of the blue variable stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud exhibit brightness variability of small amplitude in the period range 2.4 to 16 days as well as larger amplitude variability with periods of 140 to 600

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Design of Variable Amplitude Flapping Wing Aircraft and Realization of Multiple Flight Modes

open access: yesJixie chuandong, 2021
Aiming at the problems of the single flight mode and inflexible flight attitude,a variable amplitude flapping wing aircraft is designed. By adjusting the flapping amplitude, the flapping wing motion attitude and flight mode can be switched.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

A progessive damage fatigue model for unidirectional laminated composites based on finite element analysis

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2018
The simulation of the fatigue damage of laminated composites under multi-axial and variable amplitude loadings has to deal with several new challenges and several methods of damage modelling.

Fatigue crack initiation and small crack growth in several airframe alloys [PDF]

open access: yes
The growth of naturally-initiated small cracks under a variety of constant amplitude and variable amplitude load sequences is examined for several airframe materials: the conventional aluminum alloys, 2024-T3 and 7075-T6, the aluminum-lithium alloy, 2090-

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Spectral line variability amplitudes in AGNs

open access: yes, 2006
We present the results of a long-term variability campaign of very broad-line AGNs with line widths broader than FWHM $>$ 5000 kms$^{-1}$. The main goal of our investigation was to study whether the widths of the optical broad emission lines are correlated with the optical intensity variations on timescales of years.

Rheocasting versus Die Casting: An Insight into the Low‐Cycle Fatigue Behavior of AlSi7Mg0.6

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study compares rheocast lightweight components with high‐pressure die cast materials regarding microstructure and fatigue behavior. Rheocast process offers higher efficiency due to lower casting temperatures. Despite some microstructural differences, both processes show similar strengths (yield strength 125 MPa, tensile strength 240 MPa).
