EXPERIMENTS WITH A VARIABLE AMPLITUDE AND PHASE MICROSCOPE

Journal of the Royal Microscopical Society, 1950
SYNOPSIS.A special Cooke microscope was used to examine the principles of phase‐contrast applied to a series of simple objects. With transparent objects the image contrast with different methods depends on the phase change introduced by the object. Simple absorption of the direct light without phase change increases contrast of both phase and absorbing

Small-amplitude red variables

Experimental Astronomy, 1994
The status of photometric monitoring of small amplitude red variables is reviewed. Many of these stars are M type giants, but recently the search has been extended to K type giants.

Life-span changes in EEG spectral amplitude, amplitude variability and mean frequency

Clinical Neurophysiology, 1999
The objectives were to assess life-span alterations in intrasubject variability of EEG spectral amplitudes and in amplitude and mean frequency computed from spectral amplitude profiles.EEG was recorded from the central and occipital scalp of 222 healthy males aged 4 to 90 years.

Amplitude Variables of Circle on the Pedagogic Pommel Horse in Gymnastics

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2009
The movement amplitude is a key component of numerous elements in gymnastics. The purpose of the present study is to highlight the most pertinent amplitude variable of the circle performed on the pedagogic pommel horse. Twelve gymnasts (6 expert gymnasts vs. 6 nonexpert gymnasts) performed 10 circles on this event. A Vicon 512 system was used to record

Variable amplitude vibration generator

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1983
A variable amplitude vibration generator especially adapted for use with compacting machines in which a primary weight is eccentrically fixed to a power driven rotatably mounted shaft and a secondary weight eccentrically freely rotatably mounted on the shaft is releasably securable to the shaft by activating a remotely controllable detent connection ...

Variable Colour-Amplitude Phase-Contrast Microscopy

Nature, 1949
SEVERAL variable phase-contrast systems have been described. Most of these make use of polarized light in order to obtain variation of phase or amplitude, or both1. An experimental microscope has been constructed by Messrs. Cooke, Troughton and Simms, Ltd., which allows the operator to obtain positive or negative phase-contrast at will, and to control ...

Multiaxial and variable amplitude fatigue of concrete

Civil Engineering Design, 2019
AbstractConcrete structures are often exposed to cyclic loads induced by traffic or machine vibrations. To assess fatigue lifes, SN curves serve, which are usually validated by experiments. During testing, reference specimens are exposed to uniaxial and constant amplitude fatigue.

A PHASE‐CONTRAST MICROSCOPE WITH VARIABLE AMPLITUDE AND PHASE

Journal of the Royal Microscopical Society, 1950
SYNOPSIS.A phase‐contrast microscope is described in which the properties of polarized light are employed in order to vary the relative amplitudes and phases of the direct and diffracted beams over a wide range. The two beams, which are plane polarized, have their vibration directions rendered orthogonal by passage through a quartz phase plate.

Variable tidal amplitude in Hawaiʻi and the connection to Pacific decadal climate variability

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans
AbstractAnalysis of multidecadal tide records, satellite altimetry, and high‐resolution oceanic reanalysis around the Hawaiian Ridge identifies correlations between offshore and onshore mean sea level (MSL), the M2 tide, and ocean stratification; these are linked to Pacific decadal climate variability.
