Surface fatigue crack growth under variable amplitude loading
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2020Abstract Plasticity-induced fatigue crack closure plays an important role in fatigue crack growth. Under fatigue loading with variable amplitude, however, the influence of fatigue crack closure along the crack front in three-dimensional cracked bodies is difficult to analyze.

Fracture of Concrete under Variable Amplitude Fatigue Loading
ACI Materials Journal, 1996The fracture response of concrete under low-cycle variable amplitude loading at frequencies up to 10 Hz was investigated. The applied loading history, selected to reflect earthquake loads on concrete dams, consisted of a basic sinusoidal oscillation interrupted by occasional spikes.

Alternative Fatigue Lifetime Prediction Formulations for Variable-Amplitude Loading
Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 2002Accurate prediction of lifetime is an increasingly important issue for wind turbine rotor blade materials. Coupon tests with the variable-amplitude standard loading sequences for wind turbines known as WISPER and WISPERX have indicated that the coupon lifetime can be overestimated by one or two orders of magnitude using conventional lifetime prediction

Stochastic fatigue damage modeling under variable amplitude loading
International Journal of Fatigue, 2007Abstract A general methodology for stochastic fatigue life prediction under variable amplitude loading is proposed in this paper. The methodology combines a nonlinear fatigue damage accumulation rule and a stochastic S–N curve representation technique to achieve this objective.

Crack-tip stress distributions under variable amplitude loading
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2018Near threshold fatigue crack response is extremely sensitive to load history. It is associated with the influence of near-tip stress on instantaneous resistance of crack tip surface layers to failure under atmospheric conditions. The paper deals with computational aspects of stress and strain distributions at the crack tip.

Fatigue crack propagation under variable-amplitude loading
Strength of Materials, 1977A finite-element analysis has been performed to investigate quantitatively the level at which fatigue crack surfaces come into contact during fatigue cycles. The results agreed well with experimental observations and suggest that quantitative design rules may be developed, based upon the crack-closure hypothesis.

Variable Amplitude Loading on a Resonance Test Facility
Journal of ASTM International, 2004Abstract The uncertainty in fatigue lifetime calculations brings up the necessity of experimental verification. Several efforts have been undertaken in the past to improve and introduce new test methods. An alternative method for variable amplitude loading using resonance test facilities is introduced and discussed.

Random Fatigue Damage Accumulation under Variable Amplitude Loading
53rd AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference
20th AIAA/ASME/AHS Adaptive Structures Conference
14th AIAA, 2012It is found and clarified in this paper that the classical random fatigue strength derived from P-S-N curves is only valid under constant amplitude loading, and as a result, the classical fatigue reliability stress-strength interference model based on such kind of random fatigue strength is also valid under constant amplitude loading only.

DURABILITY TESTS: statistical analysIs for variable amplitude loads
Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, 2017The reduced time available for product evolution has forced original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers to develop new components and subsystems more rapidly, while taking into consideration the reliability of the final product in terms of its durability.
