Clinical Nurse Specialist, 1989
The advent of prospective payment systems prompts nurses to examine cost-related factors in demonstrating savings resulting from quality care. The clinical nurse specialist plays an active role in the examination of variables influencing costs for patients within the specialty.

2008 IEEE International Symposium on Precision Clock Synchronization for Measurement, Control and Communication, 2008
We explore the robustness of synchronization performed in the presence of variable latencies using two software clocks: the TSCclock, designed to replace ntpd for Internet synchronisation, and ptpd, a software implementation of IEEE-1588. Using a precise comparison methodology the TSCclock is shown to be more accurate and far more robust.

Replacement Costs Under Warranty: Cost Moments and Time Variability
Operations Research, 1986We consider a product that is sold under one of the two common warranty policies. Under the “pro rata” warranty policy, a failed item is replaced by a new one or is repaired at a cost prorated to the age of the failed item. Under the “free replacement” warranty policy, replacements or repairs during the warranty period are provided by the supplier ...

Omitted variable bias and hospital costs
Journal of Health Economics, 2001This research examines the impact of omitted variables on the accuracy of parametric hospital cost function estimations based on Québec hospital level data. We assess the effect of omitted variables resulting from incomplete data on technology and performance measurement and on tests of the cost minimizing behavior of the institution.

Berth scheduling with variable cost functions
Maritime Economics & Logistics, 2011This article presents a new mathematical formulation for the berth scheduling problem. The objective is to simultaneously minimize the total costs from vessels’ late departure and waiting time, and maximize the total premiums from vessels’ early departures.

Cost-effectiveness analysis: Can we reduce variability in costing methods?
International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care, 2003David B. Evans of the World Health Organization was erroneously omitted from the list of authors of the article entitled “Cost-effectiveness analysis: Can we reduce variability in costing methods,” which was published in Volume 19 Number 2 (Spring 2003) of International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care. We regret the oversight.

VARIABLE PRICE ADJUSTMENT COSTS
Economic Inquiry, 1993The fixed (menu) cost approach has been criticized since administrative costs of price changes are small. This paper studies costs which depend on (i) the size or (ii) the frequency of adjustment. The optimal pricing policy is similar to that in the menu cost model which is, therefore, a simple benchmark case.

Absorption costing and variable costing
1990After studying this chapter, you should be able to: explain the differences between an absorption costing and a variable costing system; prepare profit statements based on a variable costing and absorption costing system; account for the difference in profits between variable and absorption costing profit calculations; explain the ...
