COST‐PRICES WITH VARIABLE RETURNS(*) [PDF]

open access: yesMetroeconomica, 1988
ABSTRACTIn this paper a model of oligopolistic competition is presented. Firms use a mark‐up in order to price but the model does not rely necessarily on the assumption of constant returns to scale. An existence theorem is proved for such an economy.

Fixed Cost, Variable Cost, Markups and Returns to Scale [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Economics and Statistics, 2017
This paper derives the structure of a production function which is necessary and sufficient for generating a fixed cost. We extend the classical production function in order to allow each input to have a fixed and a variable part. We characterize and estimate both the fixed and variable components of the cost function and study how fixed and variable ...

The sources of hospital cost variability [PDF]

open access: yesHealth Economics, 2004
AbstractHospital heterogeneity is a major issue in defining a reimbursement system. If hospitals are heterogeneous, it is difficult to distinguish which part of the differences in costs is due to cost containment efforts and which part cannot be reduced, because it is due to other unobserved sources of hospital heterogeneity. In this paper, we apply an
